Not getting on very well with Tango whats the alternatives?
We use hangouts. Viber will do it too.
I use Hangouts for multi person conferencing, you can also share screens. fairly impressed so far, altho it took a bit of fathoming out on setting up and connecting everybody. unfortunately GiffGaff (or rather O2) data signal strength has turned out to be a bit crap for me, so I've only ever used my laptop for Hangouts video calls, so far. Keep meaning to try the phone on the wifi at home.

Fviber/whatsapp for messaging pics etc

Don't believe so.
You can use Skype and some others across android and iOS but Apple keep FaceTime to themselves. At least, that's how it was last time I looked. Hangouts is pretty good, though it doesn't stop you having to get the recipients to install something if they are just using the iPhone/Pad as they got it
I avoid skype as well due to some moody emails I keep getting regarding paypal.
