So slight dliems peeps, cheap £5 sets tend to be useless. They spin or grind, chew up screws etc.
There must be something a bit better without spending loads...
I don't really want to spend snap-on money for something I very rarely use, any thoughts?
Thanks!
Have a look at this link, it might have something that’ll suit:

I find C.K tools a good balance of quality and price, how about these from ScrewFix?

Or these home brand ones from Wickes:

Toolstation might be worth a look also.

Cheers, the screw fix one looks good, thanks 🙂
Probably the best is the ifixit kit, they’re the people who do the first tear down of any new consumer electronics kit, so their tool kit is about as good as you could want.

I bought this one a several weeks ago and I've used it more than a few times
magnetic bit, extension bar, ratchet, pouch to put it in.......£8 quid!

Cheers for the suggestions, some nice looking tools but I already have a reasonable tool kit I just need the small screw drivers.
Aren't Wera the STW-approved niche artisan wood-burning solution here?

I have had no problems with a small set by Felo that I bought on Amazon for not too much money
Felo are top quality, another option is Vessel - Japanese available online , it is worth paying the extra .
I've got a draper set of mini philips/posi/flat screwdriver bits for common stuff, and a cheap and nasty set off amazon with all the less common ones (JIS for cameras, 3 lobe, etc).
They spin or grind, chew up screws etc.
To me that implies you've picked the wrong screwdriver. JIS looks exactly like a Philips, but it's got a blunt nose, so if you try and use a Philips it'll just spin as it won't engage enough. Also Philips is designed to cam-out, JIS isn't, so JIS can be useful for getting seized philips screws out (original torque = enough to cam out, torque to release it = original + it's siezed = more than enough enough make it cam out}
I've a Draper 31-piece precision set which is fine and cheap.
To me that implies you’ve picked the wrong screwdriver.
Perhaps, but not necessarily. I've had plenty of screwdrivers made out of cheese over the years. A chrome-plated driver tip is often a good crapness indicator.

True, but we're talking the screws in a laptop. They're not going to be torqued down overly tight and seized. Stick a reassuringly expensive Wera philips screwdriver in a JIS screw and it'll still chew it up.
Obviously the best solution is a full set of expensive screwdrivers, but I'd argue the second option is a full set of cheaper ones, not a small set of expensive ones.
Been using one of these for around 10 years (site visit bod), I bought it for around a £1, so I wouldn't care if I lost it, it's been brilliant but has gone missing lately.. I'll be getting another!
If you remove the screw driver bit, the main 'shaft' fit the hex standoff too.
Got mine in TK Maxx. Little rachet screwdriver kit with a load of bits.
The Wera ones are excellent. I probably use them more than any other tools I have.
I've got a cheap plastic set and a set of fancy coloured aluminium Drapers (bought for me when I had misplaced the others). Issue with both of them is you that they're too small, and trying to remove tiny over torqued screws from a Apple laptop you can't put enough downward pressure and then get enough of a grip to turn them.
Having damaged the tip on my Draper I bought the one I needed from the own brand https://www.replacebase.co.uk/screwdrivers-tool-kits/ like this https://www.replacebase.co.uk/philips-ph000-1-5mm-screw-driver-durable-precision-s2-hardened-steel-magnetised-tip-replacebase
and it was excellent. I'm going to buy some more when I next need to order something from them.
