I'm sick of chucking money out the bank to watch telly but I cannot risk utter mayhem/mutiny from the children if I cancel the lot.
The deal sky have just offered is 13.50 line rental, 3.50 unlimited bband and 28 for the TV package which includes HD and the kids channels but no movies or sports. Any good offers and fwiw the bband is bang on.

Whatever you do end up going for, I'd tag a Netflix subscription on. Its miles better value than the Sky package.
So go for the cheapest standard package. Then For 6 quid a month for the Netflix you'll keep your kids happy, have mountains of films and box sets yourself.
Its worth checking out a BT package as you get BT Sport for free. You've got premiership games, all the Champions League games and the Moto GP for about the same price as Sky, for which you get nowt for free
+1 for Netflix
We are on a freeview only with Virgin, with the home phone and 50mb broadband for about £38/month + £6 for netflix.
I would ditch the phone if I could, but it doesn't make a lot of difference to the cost of the package. With Virgin you effectively rent the Tivo box, so you don't need to worry about the equipment going wrong.
Use a PS3 for all the various iPlayers. 'All 4' has a brilliant range of programs and box sets for free.
BT skin for the channels is terrible, it is cheap though, not many kids channels either
Netflix, if it wasn't for the kids content I'd bin it
Finally about to get proper Broadband (up to 1000Mbps compared to our current 1-and-a-bit) in the village. Once we're connected going to ditch Sky completely and go Freeview + Netflix + Google Play + All4/iPlayer/ITVplayer/etc).
Would probably go Virgin again if we lived somewhere it was available.
Anybody use one of those streaming boxes that a mate can get down the pub?
Dumped our sky package last month. We were paying £80+ for F1 HD etc. We kept sky broadband and phone, plus the sky+ usage, but we only get the free stuff now. We pay £21 per month.
Not missing the stuff we were paying for either.
I was paying 70 something a month for Sky, rang up last week and said I was moving to BT, got it down to £43. This is Sky TV + Sports, HD, Phone & Broadband.
Quidco cashback and a £125 Sainsbury's voucher are available if you move to BT ( not sure I could have gone through with the move as past dealings with BT have not been good! )
Full sky package including movies and sports
Broadband
Phone and line rental
£120 a month
Dumped sky last year as the price was getting silly, went with Plusnet for £15 per month fibre broadband and pay line rental yearly (about £180, never use the land line so this still bugs me).
Watch stuff on line and by 'other' methods
I'm paying a fortune at the moment (on my list of things to sort...)
£63/month Sky (everything apart from Sports)
£47/month fibre (inc. line rental), with Zen so happy to pay a bit more but in hindsight I don't need 76Mbps
I'm one of Sky's "too lazy to get virtually the same content through other means" target market, hopefully they'll still drop the price if I say I'm going elsewhere though (Virgin is now available in the area).
Just signed up for BT For unlimited broadband (not super fast as we can not get it), line rental, Youview recordable box, basic TV and HD channels, evening and weekend calls and they are buying us out of our Talk Talk contract. All in £33. You also get access to free BT wifi out and about which is a massive bonus for me work wise.
Through Quidco so £160 cashback.
Reason for moving from talk talk is we have had tons of problems with our broadband and TalkTalk have been so slow at fixing it. Also the TalkTalk Youview box keeps crashing and takes ages to start when you first use it. So far talking to BT they have been great and call centre staff have been very good, unlike TalkTalks indian call centres where they are very polite but hard work to get them to actually fix anything and not just work off a script.
Sky movies and ents via NowTV for 12/month
Netflix for £6/month
Online players for free.
All streamed to TV on AppleTV.
Plusnet fibre broadband and phone (50mb) for £22/month.
So all in £40/month for very fast broadband, phone line, and LOTS of TV and Films. Not bad really.
"Full sky package including movies and sports

😯
Sky costs us about £76 a month for phone line, broadband, Sky (no movies or sports), HD and multi room.
I've thought about changing but am probably too lazy.
I pay £11.99 for PlusNet's unlimited ADSL service then add Netflix £5.99 per month and Amazon Prime Video £79 year.
The kids use the streaming. My wife just watches Freeview and Freesat channels.
I also occasionally pay Now TV for a sports day pass.
I cannot get VDSL or cable which is pretty annoying.

😯
It's not bad
Line rental is £15 regardless of where you buy it from
Free calls etc in the phone package (not that I use it)
20 meg fibre broadband is going to be £20 I'm guessing from most places
So it works out ~£80 for the full sky package. That seems ok, though others may baulk at paying that for TV, I don't.
Tv only connected to apple tv box, no tv licence etc needed. £16 a month line rental & broadband, £6 netflix, free redbull tv. Soon to be zero as I am going to live in a van, but £22 all in at the mo.
EDIT - ying to Bobs yang perhaps. Don't be rude! 😉
" though others may baulk at paying that for TV, I don't. "
Yep that will be me!!
Yep that will be me!!
Ironically I don't watch much tv 😆
£25.40 per month - for "unlimited" broadband and phone (inc. mobiles), with Sky.
We separately pay £5.99 per month for Lovefilm DVD. As we now have an internet TV box, this will be replaced with a similarly-priced streaming service or possibly nothing / pay on demand (if it exists).
I will always pay the licence fee, just to show my support for Radio 4!
My parents used to pay a hideous subscription for all the Sky TV content, which they have now stopped without the world ending.
£47 for 50mb Virgin Broadband, phone (not actually used) and XL TV which includes TiVo, BT Sport and the HD channels. Also got a second V+ box which we rarely use. That includes line rental.
I want to add Sky Sports but can't justify nearly £30 for a few more channels.
Anybody use one of those streaming boxes that a mate can get down the pub?
Yes, they are not very good & rubbish quality and that's all I can say unless I want this post deleted. 😉
Just changed to Virgin to enjoy the HD channels and 200mb broadband. Already a customer and got it for £58pm inc line rental. Also have Netflix, but I'm probably going to ditch that soon.
Im paying sky 38 quid a month for
Unlimited Fibre
Line rental + local call bolt on
Basic TV package
Called up and said i wanted to cancel my tv subs and pay one off £25 quid for sky freesat card (Basicaly uses skybox and sat for all freeview channels) and they heavily discounted me to keep me on board.
I miss Sports and movies but theres Kodi for all that
Freeview, broadband and phone £23 a month.
People paying £1k a year for TV etc? What recession?
Was on a discounted sky sub of about £45 for fibre, phone and sky family package thing. Just gone back up to about £80!
Would miss Eurosport, extreme channel, Sky 1, and a few kids channels if we left sky.
But would love another alternative
Around £65 here for line rental, phone,SKY fibre unlimited and Sky HD with all channels (inc movies), but no sport or multiroom.
We were paying just over £40 for fibre and phone, but Sky offered full TV package including sport for £24 a month for a year. I said I didn't want sport, so the price came down by a whopping £2 to £22 extra. It's worth £20 or so a month for Sky TV and a decent Sky box, but when you can have amazon prime AND netflix combined for around £15 a month it looks very poor value for money at anything close to "full price".
Check out the offers on Quidco - we don't have sky but went with BT and got £250 cash straight back to bank when signing up for 12 mths at c£25pm. Bargain.
+1 for netflix if you don't watch much tv and want to catch up on some decent series.
For TV zero on contract. Rent movies as desired, iTunes and CurzonHomeCinema. Streamed via Apple TV.
Kids long gone so not a factor. Back in the day we where paying £70 for two TVs on Sky with sports, waste of money and to Murdoch to boot. We do pay £30 a year for a VPN so we can watch the full range of BBC when aboard
43 a month to sky for :-
Fibre
Phone
Sports
Movies
Family pack
Sky go extra
Doesn't include HD though
How come so much fluctuation in deals? Geezer was adamant that was his best offer today. **** em I shall be cancelling tomorrow due to his bull shit!
32 quid for bt phone unlimited calls - because mrs tr seems to think we need it....cant remember the last time i used the house phone to call anyone.....and her one call a week to her parents we would probably be cheaper to pay for than for the unlimited package.....
And freeview.
About 35 per month to virgin for 100Mb broadband. No phone, line rental or TV.
Full sky hd, inc sports and movies
Fibre broadband 38mbps
Line rental plus some phone calls
£64/month
BT Infinity for calls and broadband. Full Sky HD with sports, Amazon Prime. About £120 a month and with 2 boys and loads of devices its worth every penny. Couple of smart tellys and everything 'just works' intuitively.
About £25 a month with BT Infinity, Youview ans free evening and weekend calls.
Perks of being an employee init!
No pay tv at all.
You tube, the odd dvd purchase, I player etc gives enough plus a couple of dvd's a month from love film.
About £35 a month with virgin. L TV package, phone and 50mb internet. Also sub to Netflix.
£22 a month for Sky family package, line rental, unlimited internet (about 2meg but we don't use it much) and unlimited evening/weekend calls
The 'trick' with getting a good deal with sky is to leave, don't just threaten as you will only get the first stage of deals. If you go through with it and give your 30 days notice then you will get calls from Sky offering better deals. If you can really stand your ground and you pass the 30 days the deals get better.
Last year I had 75% off any package we wanted. Think we are 'only' on about 60 % discount this time
No pay tv at all.
You tube, the odd dvd purchase, I player etc gives enough plus a couple of dvd's a month from love film.
It's the same thing, just less convenient, with less content and more expensive than other alternatives (Netflix)
**** 'em!
I've just pulled the plug, "you've been a very loyal customer over the last 7 years" they said. PFFFT then show your appreciation!
Gonna let the wife break the news to the kids though that 29th Nov is dday 😆
