Following the other thread and how I dislike sports where the teams have silly rufty tufty names.
What would yours be called?
Our nearest place anyone has heard of is Epsom. So our team would be either the Epsom Downers or Salters. Both guaranteed to scare the pants off any opposition.

The Papworth Hearts or, if I went further afield, The Cambridge Blues.

That's assuming Cambridge wasn't too snooty for NFL

Edinburgh Wolves apparently. Or on a more local level The Muirhouse Apaches would be a good name.

They existed already and were the Heathrow jets. Although I used to go and watch the London Ravens play occasionally.

Our local roller derby team is called The Hereford Horror Bulls.

And those girls are harder than any American football team, so they win.

We were the Bedford Blue Raiders. Now merged with MK and have become the Ouse Valley Eagles.

Back in the day I think we used to be the Bedford Bombardiers (after the beer) and even further back Bedford Yearlings.

I used to play for the Brighton B-52ss, no idea why we were called that.

Team with the best name when I was playing, and probably ever, was the Staines Removers. Genius.

There actually used to be the Granite City Oilers. Back in the 80's I think.

I believe we now have the roughnecks....

I'd go for the Crathes Cheils myself

On the flipside looking at MLS teams there's clearly a split for traditional football/soccer and harum scarum names

Chicago Fire
Colorado Rapids
Columbus Crew SC
D.C. United
FC Dallas
Houston Dynamo
LA Galaxy
Montreal Impact
New England Revolution
New York City FC
New York Red Bulls
Orlando City SC
Philadelphia Union
Portland Timbers
Real Salt Lake
San Jose Earthquakes
Seattle Sounders FC
Sporting Kansas City
Toronto FC
Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Could do with an Athletic or a Town in there somewhere.

Daveosaurus - Graham Court, think he ended up stopping due to a knee injury. Moved to Australia, took nationality in the end and represented them as a sprinter at the 'senior Olympics' (quite what senior means, I've no idea!).

Black Country Smog

....there was actually a Black Country Nailers

Wolverhampton Werewolves

....there was actually a wolverhampton outlaws

Stourbridge Lions (Stourbridge Lion, built in Stourbridge, first Locomotive to ever run on tracks in America.

....there was actually a Stourbridge Pumas

Wollaston Islanders (due to the island in the centre of the village)

or Wollaston villigers

I've seen the Sandwell Steelers play this year and they are a well run outfit.

where are the Ouse Valley lot going to be playing their home games?

wwaswas- recognise the name but think he'd packed it in before I joined the seniors.

Just looked on YouTube and found a video of the last game I ever played in. Against the Leicester Panthers in the quarter finals and we got whipped bad!

Whathaveisaidnow - Ouse Valley still play their games in Bedford. But they now have come and try sessions in MK, Northampton, St Neots and Luton so are recruiting from a wider area than before. They did pretty well last season. Won their division quite easily and lost their semi final in overtime.

cheers Hammer, where do they play in Bedford? I'm down there occasionally, might try and catch a game next season, but far too old to be running about. Although i was the John Elway of my generation in our touch football team!! 😀

The pitch is behind the athletic stadium. You get to it by going through the athletic stadium car park, on to the field where the rugby pitch is, then alongside the stadium fence, through the gap in the hedge and you will be at the American football pitch.

Used to watch the Birmingham Bulls & the now defunct Redditch Arrows

I saw the Bulls play quite a bit in the past - notably in a final down Crystal Palace where Russ Jenson didn't show up to play QB.

I was also at Villa Park for Summerbowl 1 where the Bulls were expected to be in it but lost to Streatham Olympians in the semi's, going on to lose at Villa to London Ravens who were the bee's knees at that time.

Most my time was spent watching Stourbridge Pumas, and playing in thier loosly affiliated touch football youth team the Kingswinford Cobras at QB, great arm!!
