IMG_8445.jpegIMG_8446.jpeg I’m fitting an oak worktop with an under mount sink (yes I know, but it’s a risk we’re happy to take) and as luck would have it, there’s a couple of small imperfections in the end grain right where the sink cutout is.

can anyone recommend a wood filler appropriate for this? Once finished it’s getting stained black with osmo stain and then osmo polyx. I’m not fussed for an invisible repair, just want to keep rot at bay

I’d just fill it with epoxy with some black pigment in but I’d have to stand the worktop on end to flow it in and it’s 3m long so I don’t have the space to do so

Tape over it and inject with a needle

Once you've filled it as above, might also be an idea to seal all the endgrain with a wipe of epoxy.

Sand you cut piece.

Mix the saw dust with your filler of choice.

Osmo the shit out of it.

We have an under mounted sink in oak. The cut end has so much osmo on it that it's never been an issue.

The area where people set down once used mugs and glasses in the dream they will use them again rather than stick them in the dishwasher on the other hand........makes me riotous.

Ahh never thought of injecting epoxy - does that work? Presumably somehow expelling the air as I go somehow?

Well what i would do is place tape so that the bit facing up is slightly loose and fill the pocket you have created with a blunt tipped syringe pushed all the way to the bottom of the pocket. That will leave it slightly proud to tidy up.

Alternatively black superglue of the thick variety works very well. You will have to build it up in layers and blast it with activator.

Sawdust and glue would be what i would use if i could however i think where its located i would probably want to seal the hole completely not just rely on finishing layer.

We used to have oak worktops - the rusty steel potato peeler was the worst for leaving stains on the surface.

Those stains come out with oxalic acid. Like they were never there. Either straight powder or use barkeepers friend, make a paste and leave it on.

You could fill it with 2 part epoxy wood filler, or if you want black it you might find it easier to use Milliput epoxy putty. Personally, I'd cut it out with a forstner bit and glue in a plug made from an offcut.
