Evening all.
Completely missed the fact that the new iPhone SE doesn’t have a headphone jack, so now looking to get some new wireless headphones.
Always had Sennheiser stuff before, which has been pretty good. I need ‘proper’ headphones as I must have weird ears and buds of any kind don’t stay in.
Just for use on the turbo, or when working and so as not to hear the other half’s Teams call, and when travelling by train and stuff.
Whatcha got?
Motorola Escape 500
Really impressed with them.
Not much dough.
You do know you can get a lighting to 3.5 converter right?
Top tip. don't go for the Shure 215 se's, you'll spend half your life trying to fit them.
Edit, wait for Flashy to recommend the bilgy brass Sony's*
* they aren't half bad.

Yeah, I know. Husband’s got one.
The one thing I dislike about my current headphones is the ridiculously long cable, so it’s tipping the balance in favour of something new and shiny.
The SE has a Lightning port, does it not? Then spend ten quid on the 3.5mm > Lightning adaptor and carry on plugging your ‘phones into your phone. There are a few precious souls who refuse to defile their ‘phone by using a ‘dongle’, (which it isn’t), but the adapter has a big advantage, in that it removes a stress-point on the headphone cable where it plugs into the phone, and puts a flexible joint in its place.
If you do want some pretty decent over-ear ‘phones that don’t cost an arm and a leg, I use Taotronics SoundSurge BT ‘phones, that cost £55. They have noise-cancelling, are comfy enough to wear for a few hours, and can be used with a cable if the battery dies in the ‘phones. Even better, you can get a Lightning > 3.5mm cable, with cloth braided outer for less than ten quid off ebay, and it works really well, in fact I use my SoundSurge ‘phones cabled more often than not.
Anker do a similar pair of headphones, which I did a comparison with the Taotronics, and I much preferred the Taotronics, but both get good reviews; it’s worth ordering both from Amazon and returning the ones you don’t like for a refund.
The noise-cancellation works pretty well, too; switching it on when there’s a fair amount of background noise, like in a cafe, or with traffic, it really does drop back a great deal, impressive for ‘phones costing so little.
I’ve looked at really expensive BT ‘phones like the B&W P7’s and the new Apple ones, both of which can be used with a cable, but not if the battery has died! WTAF is the point of that? Really? “Yes, our posh, expensive headphones allow the use of a cable, but not if the battery runs out”. So what’s the sodding point, then?
At least the Sony ones work with a cable in passive, unpowered mode, but they’re still at least £280 or so!
Sony WH-1000XM3, maybe a bit cheaper now the XM4's are out
I just use cheap headphones on the turbo. Couldn't think of anything worse than using a good over-ear pair and filling them full of sweat.
Around the house I have Sony WHCH700n and they're one of the best things I've ever bought. I'm no audiophile but certainly have no complaints about sound quality.
Agree on everyone saying Sony ones I have some XM3s that I got when I started to work from home and the sound is amazing. They are expensive but as a life long cheap headphone buyer I will never go back now.
I got the Bose 700 after much deliberation. First few shop demos I thought a 300 quid headphone was just plain stupid, got them for 200 in a sale and never looked back. Loving my workouts now and would be lost without them.
I probably spent 200 quid on cheap rubbish ones over the years.
For the super bling, why not the brand new Bose wireless ear buds that are supposed to be better than bone conduction phones for letting you be aware of ambient sound while listening to music?
I'd be super interested to hear from anyone that has tried a pair and can let us know what the sound quality is like. Could be the emperor's new clothes though.
As you don’t state a budget then I’m going to agree with the Sony XM4’s. They are pretty unanimously recommended as the got to in the sub £400 wireless category.
I use the Bose Quiet Comfort IIs. Amazing piece of kit, probably use they several hours every day, at work, in the garden, doing DIY etc. Wearing them now listening to a bit of Prokofiev...
I'm really liking the AKG N60NC over ears ones I got just before Christmas. About a ton so not as spendy as the Bose/Sony options. Noise cancelling is okay, pretty comfortable on the turbo trainer sessions too.
I have Aipods Pro. Very pleased with them. Noise cancelling is very good and the stay in my ears when running
I use my Air Pod pro's on the turbo. I've found them to be the only wireless bud not to fall out my ears.
What’s your budget?
Been impressed with the AirPods Pro. Great sound quality but the apple-ness is ace. Switch seamlessly between iPhones and iPads based on what I need. Can listen to music on one, take on a call on another, then flick back after etc
If you're looking for something less spendy, but not cheap & nasty, I'm very happy with my skullcandy hesh wireless. I think my wife's Bose ones sound a tad better, but mine are comfier and a whole lot cheaper!
In true STW fashion of recommending what you have.... stick with Sennheiser and get the Momentum 2.0. Best headphones I have ever used. My ears don't play well with buds either so had to go with over ear
@kayak23 can I ask how tight and secure the fit of the Motorola headphones is?
