Need some winter tyres to go on steel rims for my Peugeot expert 2013

What are good - know about continental so no need to mention those, what else is there?

Not Maxxis Vansmart Snow WL2

Mine were defeated by flat, damp grass despite being Mud and Snow rated.

I have Falken Eurowinters on my Doblo Cargo for the past 2 winters and they are very good and reasonably priced

My velle has Goodyear Ultragrips, bought in the summer last year so got a good discount. They’re really good - excellent handling & braking in both wet and dry with great snow and ice performance. Oddly they’re quieter than the summer contis.

Mud and Snow rated.

the ‘m&s’ marking is a very vague designation and doesn’t even really define a tyre as a winter tyre.

its a bit fruitless anyone recommending what you’ve got as a lot of the manufacturers change their tread design every year or so seemingly, for cosmetic reasons as much as anything.

tyres with the same name can have different tread patterns in different sizes as well.

You’re as well just buying a reputable brand and choosing a tyre that looks grippy - the more sipes running across the tyre than around it the more edges there are to grip. Not very science but as a consumer you don’t really have anything better to go on.

the 3PMSF marking (three peak mountain snowflake* - a picture of a snowflake inside a picture of a mountain) is a more meaningful designation

* named after the popular lbleeding heart iberal endurance running and early morning car door slamming event

The Ducato amabulance at work run Cross Climates and are surprisingly effective. Michelin Agilis are excellent, though expensive. I’ve ran Falken Eurowinters on the old vivaro and they were great. The current T6 has hankooks and they are not as good as the falkens. Two are quite worn and I might switch them for the Michelin’s

I've tried Rainsport 5's on the van this time, as Mac said, because the tread looked what I was after. Since last november, they've been excellent, and not as noisy as the CC's.

Vredstein (sp?) Wintrac Xtreme were very good in my experience with less tendency to hydroplane in wet weather. The car felt on rails in the bad weather this winter.

Their summer performance is pretty good too because they're still on the car...

The Bridgestone Blizzaks on my Berlingo have been great - was scrabbling up frosty loose 1 in 4 stalkers tracks above Gairloch with them last November. I've had them on year round for two or three years though and a quick google shows four different tread patterns for a tyre with that name, non of which look like mine.

On the Sprinter which generally sees more time on gravel, mud and snow I've variously had Continentals, Michelines, Vredestines and General Eurovan tyres. All good when new, the Eurovan's at the time I bought them had the best tread for rough conditions and also for cutting through standing water - sending spectacular rooster-tails out sideways!

However the Generals and the Conti's both went bad with time. The Generals just stopped being round - which was worrying. The rubber on the Contis seemed to go off with time - fine on rough surfaces, fine in the dry, fine in proper rain, fine in the snow... but on bit on damp tarmac it was like someone had spilled diesel on the road - I could spin the rear wheels just by changing gears on the motorway
