Time for a new winter jacket. My hour-long commute is equally split between train-hopping and walking, so I need something waterproof and reasonably warm, without being boil-in-the-bag.

Been wearing a Bergans Flya insulated waterproof jacket for the last couple of years, but the latter-day version of this doesn't seem to be readily available.

Anyone know of anything that might fit the bill?

My red lines on the matter include colours which require battery-power and hoods with half a dead Husky attached.

I'd split it up. I've got a few jackets and gilets that I combine as required. Much more flexible.

It's nearly always warmer in the evening than the morning, and it's not often cold and wet at the same time.

But I've just read and you're not on the bike. Less relevant!

I think I'd still have a waterproof shell and a choice of warm stuff, though.

I tend to split the warm and waterproof functions between layers.

So you're looking for a coat and a jumper, right?

Do you live near big a TK Maxx? My current favourites are a lightweight North Face jacket and a mint 3 in 1 Patagonia parka both found in amongst all shonky neon ski jackets.

I've stopped going in because there's always at least one 'must buy' item.
