Please Help! My fiancee and I are struggling with what to have, (cant really agree) so could do with a few suggestions. This is my first posting on here so please be gentle.
Thanks
My precious love, Lenny Kravitz.
We're still together 8 years later and I love her to bits. It's a shit song though.
Ours was -Songs of Love by divine Comedy - a.k.a. theme music of Father Ted
This was ours.
My friends choice was excellent. It was this. 😀
ours was wonderful tonight by eric clapton
fantastic.. just made me have the biggest smile 😀
We had a live 6 piece swing band for our evening entertainment - and this was our first song 🙂
We had this (or at least the slightly shorter Radio Edit) - not really your usual wedding fare though I guess?
(Can't find the official video on YouTube)

MESSAGE!
slow bit at the start for you an the mrs, then the congregation join in the dancing as the chorus kicks in 🙂
My little brother had James Brown's I Feel Good.
Something Changed by Pulp.
Followed by Baby I Love You by The Ramones, which filled the floor.
Let's Get Married by The Proclaimers followed by the dance version of Quando Quando. We also mulled over having Tony Christie's Reno as a follow up but didn't think folks would see the funny side.
Snow patrol chasing cars then boom, straight into queen don't stop me now !
How Sweet It Is, James Taylor version.
We learnt an Argentinian Tango (4 steps essentially, repeated)Suprised everyone and we had to practice quite a bit to get it looking good.
Then had a ceilidh. Had to audition the band as living in Englandshire there are a few ropey ones though.
It's great as gets everyone up and dancing though prob only really works if you have some scottish connection and a reasonable proportion of the guests can do the dances.
we skipped the dance/disco/party evening thing.
much more relaxing just to let everyone chill out & drink at their own pace
although bruk, I like your style 🙂
second choice song was this
True Companion - Marc Cohn
A more fitting set of words I couldn't imagine...
We ain't married but if we were we would use this.
But this is the best I have heard of!
Friends had 'The lovecats' by the cure, thought it was really nice
[url=
make me feel so young
We had this:
Brilliant song, and very apt lyrics.. but we didn't really think about how to dance to it so it was a bit more awkward shuffling.
I had other things on my mind though, I may even have got something in my eye 😉
Dave
Smack my Bitch Up - Proidgy
No, actually it was Van Morrison - Have I told you lately...
I got 99 problems but ......
😆
nobody does it better - carly simon
We had ella and Louis, let's call the whole thing off.
Secret Garden by The Boss followed by All Night Long by Lionel RichTea to get everyone dancing.
Actually, reading that back it looks as though we've been married twenty years. It was last year. 😳
Have I told you lately - Van the man, followed by Come What May from Moulin Rouge. Was q close run thing though between that and Question of Lust - Depeche Mode. Seven years this year! Good luck to you both!
Crazy Love - Van Morrison
Van the Man here as well.
"Jesus Built My Hotrod" by Ministry
Eels, "My beloved monster"
OR
Taj Mahal "Lovin' in my Baby's eyes"
Stereophonics - step on my old size nines
"Stand by me" it's a great song and full of meaning, but most importantly, it was only 2:30min long!
Elbow - on a day like this
What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life. Beautifully sung by the lady jazz singer we booked..
Madness - "Must be love"
Shed Seven - Chasing Rainbows.
Miss Jones (1930's Rogers and Hart jazz classic ruined by Robbie Williams on"Swing while you're winning").
We did a quickstep after a few lessons - let's face the music and dance (ie "there may be trouble ahead...") Honestly don't think my wife saw the joke at all
Some more ideas for you ... 🙂
The first time ever I saw your face
R. Flack ..

"Come what may" by Ewan McGregor & Nicole Kidman from "Moulin Rouge".
Lou Reed - Perfect Day
I'm sticking with you - Velvet Underground
A lot of our friends thought it was great! 🙂
As we married in Inverness we had to have a ceilidh (it would appear to be law)! So our first dance was a waltz. Had a few lessons before just to make sure I wasn't too embarassing! When the band had a break the first song was Elbow's One day like this.
At least we didn't have to worry about auditioning the band, just went on referals and you tube vids of them at festivals.
George Benson - Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You.
We had lessons as well and surprised everyone. The risk with a slow song is pointless shuffling with a token spin here and there.
"C'mon Eileen" - Dexy's Midnight Runners
And
"Take a look at my girlfriend" - Supertramp
Hahaha
Lonestar - Amazing
Zero 7 Destiny, love Sia's vocals:
Ended with this by Green Day, well sort of ended, we kept playing songs until quite late:
Sweet Pea Amos Lee - easy to dance to!
Hideous, hideous things, first dances.
We had "The Everthere" by Elbow.
A beautiful song.
We had Queen's "You're My Best Friend".
I did want to do a full dance routine to Richard Cheese's version of Slayer's War Ensemble, but we didn't have time and coordination would have been a bit tricky in my dress.
[url=
Deville, Spanish Stroll, cos we both love it.
We had a Northumbrian band and caller. No disco, no hideously embarrassing first dance.
Exactly what we wanted. I'd have refused to get married if Mrs NickF had wanted a massive occasion and a choreographed first dance, but luckily she feels the same way. The fact that she does is probably why I married her.
we had, Unkle - what are you to me. Nobody other than my wife and myself had a clue what it was 🙂
Your the one by Robbie Williams, cheesy I know but we saw him in New Zealand after we had had a rocky patch for a while before hand, summed up a fantastic year out there.
You have to find one that means something to both of you.
"You and Me Song" by The Wannadies.
Wish we'd learned to dance properly beforehand, but nevermind, we just pogoed around 🙂
I wanted "You are the best thing" by Ray Lamontagne, but the missus overuled and we had "I Swear" by some cheesey R&B boyband type thing.
Was good though
the Brother in law had had this:
I wanted "You are the best thing" by Ray Lamontagne, but the missus overuled and we had "I Swear" by some cheesey R&B boyband type thing. Was good though
Thats no way to start a marriage, should have put your foot down!! 😀
"Oh Yes You're Beautiful" by GlitterGary
We had Paul Weller "You do something to me" then we Better by Tom Baxter
"You are the sunshine of my life" by Stevie Wonder.
Can't remember much else from that night tbh.
Hot Barbecue - Brother Jack McDuff.
Romeo & Juliet - Dire Straits
One of my friends bizarely left it up to the DJ to choose - maybe they couldn't decide. Either in ignorance (possible we are talking an 80's wedding DJ) or malevolence he chose "Band of Gold" - well...it's about a wedding ring innit?
Oh how we laughed (sort of).
Me and Mrs V8 used this:
A mate of mine did it brilliantly last year by starting with the Conga! It went through the bar, the kitchens, the car park, someone's room, etc ....
We got married 4 weeks ago, first dance was to Elbow - One day like this but then the DJ put Adele - Someone like you on. Sort of brought the atmos down! Had a cailidh band who took over then until later.
The DJ was a bit of dick, someone asked him for take that later so he put about 6 songs on in a row then did the same with lady gaga, don't use Dereks Disco from Bury!
Enjoy the day, it flies past in a bit of a blur!
Got married 3 weeks ago. I hate dancing at the best of times, and the thought of doing it with everyone I know watching appealed even less, so we ditched the idea and just let everyone get on with it.
Having spoken to other people who've spent the whole of their wedding meal worrying about the first dance, I'm now determined that this was the right answer.
As it turns out, the band insisted on us doing an impromptu last dance, but everything was rathre more relaxed by that stage.
By the same logic, do your speeches early, then you can get on with enjoying yourself 😀
Good plan pdw, I may copy. Neither of us wants to do it and the only reason I get given for keeping it in is because 'people expect it'. I can't find any songs I like although we did think about Queen's 'Fat Bottomed Girl' for a day or two 😀
We didn't do ours 'first' either, it was about halfway through the night. Decided it was about time to get it over with while we could still dance 🙂
If you think the grannies can handle it I would love someone to use "F### Her Gently" by Tenacious D 😆
spent the whole of their wedding meal worrying about the first dance
Er, why? You just put your arms round each other, sway a bit and gaze longingly... what's to worry about?
Walk forever by my side by Mike Peters, still gets me now. Perfect.
