I have a memory of a really good kids drama series that featured a family in the Depression travelling around possibly in a  Model T Ford in the US or maybe Australia. I think it was the first thing that inspired in me the concept of adventurous travel. I can remember the theme tune played on a fiddle.

I can’t seem to track it down.

Anyone else got an idea?

Based on the details you provided, it's challenging to pinpoint the exact TV series you're referring to. However, there are a few possibilities that might match your description:

1. "The Waltons" (1972-1981): While not set during the Great Depression, this popular American drama series follows the lives of the Walton family in rural Virginia during the 1930s and 1940s. The show focuses on their daily struggles and adventures.

2. "The Sullivans" (1976-1983): This Australian drama series is set during World War II and revolves around the Sullivan family. While it doesn't feature travel in a Model T Ford, it depicts the challenges faced by a family during a tumultuous period.

3. "The Flying Doctors" (1986-1992): Although it is set in contemporary times, this Australian drama series revolves around the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which provides medical care in remote areas. While not set during the Great Depression, it might evoke the concept of adventurous travel.

If none of these suggestions match the series you're thinking of, providing additional details such as character names or specific plot points could help in identifying it more accurately.

Definitely not The Waltons, The Sullivan’s or Flying Doctors… @IHN that could be the case.

It’s hard to explain, but I don’t remember plot or characters, just the theme tune and a feeling of sunshine, sand and vast spaces, an old car and blond haired rag tag kids.

don't think the Waltons, Sullivans & flying Doctor would be kids tv?

Australian? if it's not Neighbours then it must be Skippy?

@jamj1974 you absolute legend! How did you get that?

That is absolutely it.

I found the tune on the trailer on Vimeo to confirm it - softer violin than I misremembered but definitely the same tune.

As a young kid in the eighties, I hated the Sullivans, depressing and boring. Cartoons any day!

Sullivans and the Waltons weren't exactly kids TV but were broadcast in afternoons and on weekends when we were watching TV as kids.

Sons and Daughters, tears and laughter...

Earlier than that Little house on the prairie must have been the '70's used to bring my mum to tears while I was starving wanting my tea

I'd never heard of Petrocelli:

Petrocelli works as a defense lawyer, and each episode follows a similar format, with the clients apparently certain to be convicted of a crime of which they were innocent until a late-emerging piece of evidence allows the protagonist to suggest to the jury an alternative possibility. These alternatives never were established as absolute fact, and the trial of the persons onto whom Petrocelli turned the accusation never occurred, but the doubt raised was sufficient to secure the release of his clients.

🤣🤣🤣

Sons and Daughters, tears and laughter…

Ahem, I'll think you'll find..

Sons and daughters,
Love and laughter.
Tears and sadness and happiness
We will find out
our sons and daughters
are what, we too
were once about

I remember it off by heart, from happy days sitting in my nana's back room when she used to look after me on Thursdays when my mum was at work. I'd be sat with her in her big chair, we'd each have with a cup of tea and a stack of ginger nuts, whilst we watched Sons and Daughters, The Sullivans, Young Doctors...

It's getting a bit dusty in here, if I'm honest 🙂

Quincy MD "Sam I'm off on a date with a lass half my age, you solve the case and then I'll swoop in and claim the kudos". Still, grandad liked it.

Lunch time was weird eh? Let's pretend/Cockleshell Bay followed by the Sullivans. Ying and Yang
