One with a poison tipped blade hidden in the end do that you can “take care of” double agents. That or just pop in to TK Maxx and see what they have.

James Smith. I inherited one from one of my grandfathers. His "town" umbrella. Hardly used, now treasured.

Fox are rather good as well.

I pack one of these for trips to Singapore.  https://www.lifeventure.com/products/accessories/trek-umbrellas-medium

Packs up small, and just enough coverage to deal with the tropical downpours.

Umbrellas are only used by arse holes

*waves*

a bit out of budget, but I've had one of these for 6 years - bit of an achievement given the sub-tropical downpours and wind it's survived:  https://bluntumbrellas.co.uk/products/metro?variant=43980651465

IME it doesn't greatly matter. When you need one, you've forgotten it and have to buy a cheap one from K-Mart. When you don't need one, you forget it somewhere, so it's lucky it was just a cheap one from K-Mart. 😀

The hood: a covering for the head and neck with an opening for the face, typically forming part of a coat or sweatshirt.

Umbrellas are a pain in the wotsit for everyone.

This

Umbrellas are a pain in the wotsit for everyone.

And that are what I wanted to say originally, but thought it would be rude. Umbrellas are shit.

I was in La Bresse for the DH world cup and walking the track on race day could hardly see any racing due to the brolly's lining the track. They can be a pain in the arse in certain situations. Buy a good hat and coat.

That said, I bought a Senz for Mrs Wachowchow many years ago and it gets used regularly and still looks new. Great stability in the wind too. Basically their own blurb is spot on.

Waterproof coats are horrible "boil in the bag" garments where you end up just as wet as if you were exposed to the rain but smelling of stale seat as well, umbrellas are much nicer for normal use.

Buy a good hat and coat.

This is the correct answer.

A hat is where it's at.

But a brolly is a lot cheaper than a hat and cost! And it’ll dry quicker, easier and it’s handy...

In which case, the Decathlon one joshvegas recommends is ideal.

I keep one up the side of the drivers seat in the car and it unfolds into a full size golf brolly for the princely sum of £8

THE ULTIMATE WATERPROOF BREATHABLE

Let me start by offering everyone the chance to dump their eVENT, Gore-Tex, Conduit and other types of breathable shells for a piece of gear which is everything you ever wanted in a shell. Light and compact, this beautifully simple piece of outdoor gear can be easily stowed away in a rucksack when not used, or carried in the hand ready for instant action should the clouds open. It’s very cheap, ranging from a couple of pounds for a basic design, to maybe a hundred for a sturdy mountain model. It’s both 100% waterproof –even though the fabric is just uncoated nylon or polyester – and 100% breathable. At a push you can use this piece of gear to protect more than one user, plus it’s also 100% UV proof, keeping you cool as well as dry. Guessed what it is yet? If I told you it could also be used to fight off rabid dogs and children, assassinate Bulgarian dissidents (actually they used a pin) and allow nannies to fly over rooftops ,would you be any warmer? Yes, you guessed it, the humble umbrella – by far the best and only piece of outdoor gear that is 100% breathable and waterproof. Sure if it’s windy you might get a bit wet as rain is blown under its protective shield but no wetter than wearing a shell probably and I know it’s not ideal for mountaineering – after all, having one hand holding onto an umbrella may make climbing a tad harder – but if you want the ultimate in performance then that’s a sacrifice you’ll have to make, because high performance always comes at a price – if it doesn’t then it’s simply just performance.

This one - resists the wind and is strangely asymmetric ..
