I need to replace the tyres on my motorhome, it's built around a Fiat Ducato chassis. Will normal van tyres do, or is a different type required because it's a motorhome?
Motorhome tyres are better, however they are limited in choices and are costly.
I tend to use quality commercial tyres and because the speeds tend to be lower, although the van is heavily loaded I have never had a significant problem.
Caution, buy a decent tyre - we found the cheaper Avon commercial tyre not stiff enough in the carcass to cope with the transfer of load into corners and it made the rear wayward!
We've also got a Ducato based camper. the service book specifies Camper tyres so that is what we had fitted. for reasons best understood by the manufacturers they have to be inflated to a much higher pressure and yes they cost a fair amount per tyre and I'm sure there will be plenty on here that will suggest sticking van tyres but when I've paid £xxK for the van i'm not going to risk an accident or invalid insurance to save a few pounds.
The challenge now is to try to wear them out rather than watch them dry out in the sunshine. already 2,000 miles in!
Another reason to buy camper specific tyres, or at least good commercial ones, is that they are resistant to developing flat spots if parked up for a long time.

this is the only difference really between a camper specific and a normal van tyre - the ride etc is worse with the camper tyre, but they can cope with sitting there at max load for months on end. never leave a camper with low pressures!
I keep winter tyres (van) on mine as it doesn't do a huge amount of miles so wear isn't really an issue, plus handling is loads better in wet/snow (Merc Vito so rear wheel drive).
