Need to engage someone for a small job, possibly more to follow. Its just a Powerpoint presentation that needs someone with design skills to jazz up and make look more professional.
Just not sure what such people would be called, so hard to conduct a search? Is it simply graphic designer? Is there a job title more aligned with with what I need?
Would it be the same people as website designers?
Any clues appreciated!

There are graphic designers who specialise in Powerpoint presentations. I don't know why, but there are.
With most graphic designers (and I include myself here) as soon as you mention Powerpoint, the Microsoft snobbery kicks in and they'll give you 'that' look. Its a 50/50 mixture of pity and contempt 😉
When you're used to using Adobe all day, switching to anything Microsoft based is like trying to pick your nose with thick rubber gauntlets on.
You might be better talking to a local printer. Most have in-house designers/artworkers who do this type work all day long.
Most 'graphic designers' will want to do a full rebrand and spend 3 days figuring out 'who you are'! 🙂
Powerpoint has some designs built in that are actually pretty good. If you want something bespoke then you'll need a proper designer, but if you just want your slides to look a bit more jazzy then powerpoint has loads of decent templates built in you can choose from.
Depends what you want. Do you have all the content ready to go and just want it made pretty or do you have the outline content want it adjusted to be better understood? If its the former then it depends on how technical, but a graphic designer or web designer would be a start, if it the latter then the mrs does that and I can put you in touch.
What @binners said. I clicked on this thread thinking "ooh, I might be able to help..." and zoned out as soon as you mentioned Powerpoint. I mean, I can use it and have worked with it in the past, but it's not an enjoyable way to earn money, and I'd rather not if I didn't have to.
As for who can help you, search for "powerpoint designer" on google and you get loads of hits. Give one of them a call and see what they say
That's why I said a local printer - Powerpoint, Word and Publisher files get chucked at them all day!! Usually done at US Letter Size and Powerpoints at 16:9 screen format 🙂
I do love a nice Powerpoint file!
Although Canva files are becoming equally annoying as they don't create PDFs properly and again US pages sizes are the norm.
I have worked with a few guys who do powerpoint design all day, and it's amazing what they can do with something so agricultural. So you're definitely best off going with someone who is a specialist at it to get the most out of it
nickjb - its more the latter in that we have the content, just needs someone to make it pretty!
From what most of you guys are saying - do companies no longer use PPT for presentations - have we been left behind?! If it were done in Adobe, I assume it could still be used as a presentation but would we need expensive software internally to be able to do that and perhaps modify the files?
Ignore all the snobbery around Powerpoint. There's nothing wrong with it - it gets a bad name because of 1) all the mind-numbing presentations we've had to sit through, and 2) the shocking mix n match use of clipart/photos/fonts/colours cobbled together by people leaders who really should know how to communicate more effectively.
Powerpoint is still in use by most businesses and won't be going away soon. It's one of those tools that is only as good as the person using it.
If you want someone to take your deck and funk it up then check out some freelancers on places like Upwork, Elance and People Per Hour (or didn't someone else say their wife was handy with it?).
Apps/products/services tied in with Adobe, Canva, Mira etc all have their place. Absolutely. But not everyone needs that.
Our lot tend to produce presentations as interactive pdf's these days they do buttons, links and animations
As far as I'm concerned PPT is still industry standard with all my customers and at conferences. Don't know why. Nobody uses any fancy features, just static slides of graphs and bullet points.
Have you had a look on fiverr.com or freelancer or peopleperhour?
I’m not being snobby about it - it’s most definitely still the main thing to use for putting presentations together. My only issue with it (and all other Microsoft apps) is that it seems to work very counterintuitively to someone who spends the majority of their time using Adobe products

And, conversely...
The problem with Powerpoint is not so much that's it's Microsft, but more often the type of people who use it to design something clearly don't know how to use their eyes.
