Just got an EOS-M, lenses and the adapter for my EF lenses so I have no excuses based on carrying a heavy DSLR.
So what camera stabilising device should I get.
Are the bigger GorillaPods any good?
I don't want a monopod as they don't work for long exposures, but I don't want too much weight.
Advice appreciated.

I like the bigger Gorilla Pods, you can get quite creative with them. However I am not entirely sure that a tripod is the thing to have for mountain bike photography.

Or do you mean photography whilst out mountain biking?

GorillaPods are fine but have a tendency to wobble around for a LONG time once touched, I had one (SLR variety, but not the metal one) and could never get sharp photos or decent long exposure shots, even the mirror seemed to set it off.
I still have it to mount my flash on, but have largely given up on it supporting my camera.
THAT SAID I was trying to support a crop-sensor DSLR with lens so maybe I was asking too much of it?...

Rather than lugging my fantastically sturdy (and damned heavy) manfrotto I picked up one of these before a trip to Morocco.

I have to say I'm rather impressed, you can remove the vertical collumn which makes the whole thing as steady as a rock, and it weighs less than a kilo and folds up to be ~30cm long so is very rucksack friendly.
It was also quite cheap for a carbon tripod!

It can't cope with strong winds very well, but you can dangle some weight off of the carabiner underneath to help.

Its not perfect, but a heck of a lot cheaper than other carbon offerings I saw.

I have a Gorillapod zoom, and I find it's great. In fact, I used it to take the late night light trails shot (2 x 30 second exposures) in this months MBR. It's nice and compact, doesn't weigh too much, and takes my Nikon D7100 and heavy lens no problem. The only drawback is that it's short so you need to find a handy pile of stones, wall or other raised object, if you don't want a photo from 6" off the ground.

I also have that Sirui stand - it's pretty sweet 🙂

Thanks for the advice chaps. Yes, its for photos whilst out biking. I think a GorillaPod is the best weight and budget compromise considering the use it will get.

Ta again.

Don't know if you've made a purchase but I have one of these things...

...but it seems they're unavailable at the moment. Only £30 a few years ago, too.

This is similar, I think...

Might be okay.
