Hi, My one year old has got hand foot and mouth- not the same thing that cows get! It's taken her appetite right down. Any suggestions? She is quite happily bashing things with spoons and cuddling her teddies right now I've stopped trying to feed her

If my experience of sick small children is anything to go by, don’t worry too much so long as they don’t stop eating entirely for long periods. Ours would refuse most stuff for a day or two then devour almost anything. Porridge was always a good bet though - slips down nice and easy

Granddaughter had HFM last month, got to love nursery for bug sharing. Scrambled eggs was her default food

Poor them!  We've had a couple of boughts of it here and it can give the sufferer horrid blisters in the mouth and throat. Usually kids are over it in a few days but if any adults get it then they tend to have it worse.  My wife couldn't eat for days.

As above, fluids,  and then anything they can manage whether it's milk, sugary drinks, ice cream (may soothe sore mouth a bit) .  Best of luck.

Custard was my go-to - with or without banana.

As above keep fluids and on the food just anything goes. Bad diet for a few days won’t kill her. Hope she recovers quickly.

You knew you were ill in the 70s when your mum turned up with this.

Bone broth. If you can get some ox tail get it in a slow cooker with water and salt for 12 - 18 hours until the bones fall out. Treat what’s left like pulled beef.  Really is a super food

Sounds delightful. Toddlers love a bit of bone broth.

Stick some Calpol in it and we're in business.

Ice lollies were a winner here for sick babies.

Whatever you can. Ours had a fairly mild case a few months ago and mainly got by on greek yoghurt and bananas. If you need to resort to some pouch food so be it, just get the calories in. I sometimes mix some drizzly peanut butter into her yoghurt to increase the calories a bit. Also you can get these dummy type things from Amazon, etc. that you can fill with puree then freeze for them to chew on and it comes out through little holes (ours doesn't use a dummy but likes them). They're great for when teething/mouth ill plus you can put some veg in and feel less guilty!

HFM is terrible. My sympathy. I'd second the ice lollies suggestion, cools, soothes and provides fluids all in one

My mum used to make me mashed banana in some milk.

Slightly less posh than the Greek youghurt version!

Thanks again for the ideas.

After not that much yesterday and for breakfast she has muched her way through

Maple syrup pancakes

Bacon

Wotsits

More water that I've ever seen her drink

Pizza

Blueberries

So not quite the very hungry Caterpillar, but a lot happier than yesterday

Food that have been totally rejected

Everything on spoons

Peaches

Porridge

Cheerios

Yogurt

Jam

Milk

Bread

Crackers

Oat cakes

It's felt like I've either been feeding her, getting pelted with food and cried at or cleaning up thrown food most of the day

Don't current parents just feed their kids smashed avocados?

Thanks for the update, good news!!!! When they’re properly ill the best tip we were given is just relax and get whatever you can in. I’d say a very good effort. Might pop round for pancakes.

Maple syrup pancakes

Saw the first post and was going to suggest exactly this. Whenever mine have been sick (with pretty much anything) pancakes with a suitable topping were always appreciated. I've made so many pancakes over the years, i even bought a couple of pancake pans.

My 2 year old had this recently. Horrible! Best of luck getting rid quickly.

For food our successes were mashed up pear, banana with nutella and Frube yogurts (the sticks) frozen then chopped into small bits.

Pancakes with syrup is a good call, custard too.
