You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have an old 3 man Vango tent that after 20 years of use is no longer waterproof, the taped seams have gone.
Seems really wasteful to bin it. Other than recycling the parts separately can anyone recommend what to do with it? Ideally local to Sheffield or Chesterfield.
The inner on its own would make a great beach shelter for someone but no use to us as we go to the beach about once a year.
Shame it's not a canvas tent otherwise you could have made it into a pair of jeans like what Levi Strauss did 👖
Find a group of homeless people living on the street and ask if anyone wants a good tent.
Â
Might even find a street level homeless charity will take it off you.
If its a popular model there might be a scout group or similar who'd the hardware for spares.
Play tent for kids?
I donated a couple to Retribe ( https://www.retribe.co.uk/) at Keswick Mountain Festival last year - they do recycled stuff with them.Â
Depending where you are, I'd be interested in taking the groundsheet out of the inner to use as a footprint for my little tent.Â
Other than that, all a local scout troop, the inners are handy for indoor camping.
Why not just re-seal (or re-tape) the seams? Seems a shame to bin if that’s all that is wrong with it.Â
Terra Nova will trade your tent in and give you 30% off a new one. Thats what we did!Â

Go to a music festival and just leave it there like everyone else ?
Are these past tents or future tents?
Get it made into a couple of one-man tents
Turn it into dust sheets for keeping stuff clean in the garage. Keep some pegs as spares. Recycle poles and excess pegs at the metal box at your tip. Cut off the cord / guys and use it for stuff.Â
I've used the inner for van camping in midgie lands in summer ie strung up inside the rear of the van. Meant my van van could be used for camping with rear door propped open and me not eaten alive by the fog that bites.
If you do go down the local scout group route please ask them first whether they want a tent in taht condition. Then fix a label on it stating that its seams have gone and it is no longer waterproof. We get well-meaning folk turning up at the start of the meeting donating stuff, the leaders are busy organising the meeting, a young leader accepts it and we end up with a store full of punctured sleep mats, tents with broken poles and similar detritus.....................Â
These guys might be interested, but Manchester way. Their bike touring videos are awesome and they plug the startup onthem.

Echoing what Natrix said. As a scout leader we would say "thanks, but no thanks".
