I'm having a clear out before I move house - but I don't want to end up sending lots of stuff to landfill
I've got a load of outdoor kit (mostly cycling) that isn't good enough to keep but is too good to throw away.
Are there any places / charities that will accept used gear and gift it to people in need / repurpose / recycle it
I've got a load of no-longer-good-for-running trainers going to https://www.jogonagain.com/
Think Alpkit have some sort of drop off thing for charities. Not sure what they take though.
I think Decathlon used to do something similar as well.
For bike stuff if it's components, find a local bike charity. I 've sent stuff to one in Leeds before, brakes, gears, tyres, wheels etc.
Good question - same problem here. Especially old XC-style jerseys that seem a bit tight... I doubt a charity shop would know what to do with them, so they'd end up in the rag-bin. I'll listen out for useful suggestions from the collective!
Got a local bike club with a junior section? They might be able to help redistribute the kit to juniors to make use of...
Our recycling centre has clothes bins.
I am not sure whether this is then sorted and goes for re use elsewhere or just goes to be recycled to been turned in to a Patagonia top to be sold at £100+
In some ways although cycling gear is mainly made of plastic, so is most other modern clothing, just not quite so much plastic in it
As mentioned above, i have taken a fair bit of stuff to the various alpkit shops
Alpkit i think, local cycling clubs and bike charities.
We set up a "kit swap" at our local club after lockdown, some pretty decent stuff in the boxes.
Local club, particularly with a junior section.

In Abergavenny we have a charity workshop who get all my bike bits.
