Watching a bike race might be nice, if there's one to watch.

Currently sheltering from thunder and lightning and hailstones in Tuscany, but off to Rome tomorrow for four nights. Staying close to the central station and haven't looked at the route yet, except I know it culminates with several laps around the centre.

I've never been that keen on watching road races from the roadside; one flash and they're gone. We stood on the steepest climb on Cannock Chase when the tour of Britain came through, when Wiggo and Cab won yellow and green in the TdF. They were flying past on a bit where we struggle to manage 5mph.

So, any tips on where to watch the Giro finale?

Or do some cycling yourself - hire a bike in Villa Borghese Park? (Don't forget to take your passport for identification).
