Off to Lanzarote at the end of the week with our 8yo and 10yo. Anyone got any good suggestions for things to do?

The caves in the north are worth a visit.

If near puerto del carmen, hire bikes and head east along the (very easy to ride) coast path, it's basically a block paved super highway. You'll come literally to the end of the runway and can stand what seems very close to the planes as they come in directly overhead, my kids loved it, theres also loads of roundalls on that part of the beach but be careful if you go exploring as you might get a cheeky surprise if you know what I mean. Couple of nice bars/resteraunts down that way, we then carried on in to the town of arrecife for a mooch around. Filled what was a cloudy day.

Take them to the zoo. Rancho Texas near Puerto Del Carmen is really nice, it has a small waterpark too.

The Papagayo beaches are wonderful. I love Famara too. Cesar's house is worth a look. Drive around aimlessly during the golden hours.

The Jameos del Agua is pretty cool. It’s a lava tube and there are albino crabs in the pool.

Surf. The end.

Oh kids? No idea. I'm guessing you'll be on the south of the island somewhere? Only know the north (I refer you to my first answer). Whatever, the road biking is good if you can get away, and it's a nice enough place to truck about and explore. Farmara's a massive beach with surf hire if you get it on a non-lethal day surfwise, or go look for the hammerhead shark colony under the cliffs.

And the Cesar Manrique house is worth a look (Austin Powers vibe lava cave), and you can track down his art on the north of the island. Possibly te sort of thing that made our kids duck out of family hols as soon as they were old enough...

Just got back, third visit and really enjoy it there.

As said above, Papagayo beaches are really nice, a long drive down a bumpy track to get to them though (and 3 Euro charge).

Hire a car (Autoreisen are good - we just paid 64 Euros for a car for the week with no excess).

Not sure about things for kids that age to do, there are a couple of water parks, go-kart tracks etc. I really enjoyed the volcano tour at the national park.

El Golfo is nice to visit for a meal (good fish restaurants)

Puerto Calero is a really nice harbor/port with a few nice restaurants - good for lunch. There is also a submarine trip that runs from the harbour (not been on it but would imagine kids would love it).

+1 for hire a car from Autoreisen... Done so for several years never had a problem and they are cheap.

All the Cesar Manrique stuff (house, cave concert hall, Mirador). Timanfaya. Go and watch the stars at night as there's hardly any light pollution (particularly the coast near Timanfaya). Go and watch the sunset and eat seafood at El Golfo (then watch the stars).
