Going to Chester next month with the missus and two year old daughter. We are mainly going to the zoo so it’s ticked off the list cause she loves animals.
Any other suggestions on what we could do with her while we are up that way? Is the blue planet any good ? Any good parks or gardens ? Farms etc not had a two year old daughter before so any ideas welcome

If you go into Chester, a lap of the city walls would take an hour (or two with a little person) quite a nice stroll if it’s not pissing down.

Some nice parks and play areas. Or were, my Mrs used to live there. Small player area by the ship pub in handbridge was nice, and a great one in the Grosvenor park too. Our eldest was about 18 mo when we were last there, loved the play areas. Oh and train in Grosvenor park too. Or feed ducks in park/on the Dee.

A little out of town but the Ice Cream Farm is good - a free play area, payed attractions and of course ice cream linky

If the weather is warm then there's a kids park with water features (i.e. they get wet) on Sandy Lane - I was there last week and the water side of things was off so worth a check linky

Grosvenor park is nice - lots of space to run around, good playground and a model train that she might enjoy - it's also a short walk to the river linky

You could take a boat trip on the river - either hire a small boat or there are pleasure cruiser type things that do an hour or so's tour

I've not been to the aquarium so can't comment on that I'm afraid.

There was an amazing softplay too. Are they still shut though? It was called Monkeytown or something like that.

I believe the soft play places are still closed so that might be a no go

Take them to Chester racecourse and introduce them to the joy of gambling

Come back in about 8 years time and take her to the Crocky Trail. That place is awesome! Ice Cream farm is really good though, and of course due to that really busy.

Went to the Ice Cream farm in Tattenhall last week. You need to book and pay for a slot before you go and it's mental busy with people at the moment. Check it out well n advance although may be quieter once schools are back.

We didn't do any of the indoor paid things (extra £4.90 a pop for each one) but did go on the little electric quads which are £1 each for a lap. The outdoor play area is free and entertained us quite nicely for an hour (we got a last minute slot). If the Eat out to help out continues into Sept then any ice cream bought in the parlour on site is half price. One scoop is actually two and our ice cream fan couldn't eat a tub of two scoops (4 in actuality!).

If you can travel further away check out this: https://www.britishironworkcentre.co.uk/ there's a sculpture trail for free which is highly recommended but we didn't get a chance to go (torrential rain).

I came here to recommend that – it's great, and the bubble tree will be perfect for a 2 yr old.

Deeside ice rink isn't too far away, if it's still around and open... Used to go there sporadically ~30 years ago in my teens.

Drive up to West Kirby and walk to Hilbre Island, usually seals around the islands.

If it's running now (it wasn't in mid July), drive across to Llandudno and ride the tram to the top of Great Orme.

The Blue Planet in Portsmouth is pretty decent, the young kids we went with last year enjoyed it, never been to the one in Ellesmere Port.

Blue Planet is excellent, if it's open!
