Currently on vacation with the family at Katschberg, Austria (which is about 1 hour South East of Salzburg on the border with Carinthia). Anyone been to the region? Any recommended days out, places to visit etc. Kids are 8 and 11.

Cheers

No worries mate.

Hangar 7 at Salzburg airport is worth a look too, it's Dietrich Mateschitz' mancave (owner of Red Bull). Free to get in, lots of cool man toys.

The lakes in Carinthia are lovely e.g. Wortersee. Worth a drive down and go for a boat trip or hire bikes and ride around one of them.
Pyramidenkogel is worth a look too: http://www.pyramidenkogel.info/
The Garnitzenklamm near Hermagor is interesting - it's a small gorge with a way marked walk up it and very impressive indeed

If you do visit the Worthersee take swimming stuff, absolutely amazingly clear water. Swim out from the klagenfurt end. Saltzburg is nice, not sure about what to do with the kids though.

There's a decent indoor water park not too far from you in Altenmarkt with good slides etc.
Also, you're fairly near Wagrain bike park if you can sneak off for a day.

Tamsweg has some good views. A trip up to Stikklehutte and then a walk to the source of the Mur.
