You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
This is not meant to be a willy waving, four Yorkshiremen type post (I get up half an hour before I go to bed) but genuinely curious as to what people's routine is. I've found myself naturally waking around 5-5:30am and thinking it's too early so I should stay in bed - but I end up not sleeping well and feeling really groggy when I do finally get up (6:30-7am) that I suppose I should just get up when I first wake and go do something productive. Anyone else had a similar experience? Before Covid I'd be up about 6am most days to go training before work. Really found that difficult since lock down (though I did always enjoy being out at that time of day). Maybe this is my body telling me it's time to shake the post-lock down fug that I've been struggling with and get back to it.
05:25 or about 06:00 at the weekend
Have been doing it for years - for early morning swims, then kids, now work and kids.
4.30 Mon-fri, 5 Sat and between 7-8 Sun. Body clock tries to get me up earlier on Sunday but hangover usually wins...
Alarm goes off at 7 am most days, 6.45 on Saturday (as 8am meet for club ride).
Always awake before the alarm..
Half an hour before I need to leave the house, can be any time from 6 to noon.
If I didn't set an alarm I could easy make it to after 9 regardless of the time I go to bed the night before. Week days my alarm is set for justly after 7 to make sure the kids are up and moving although after a shitty bought of COVID last September I do now struggle to get in gear for a good 60 to 90 minutes after I open my eyes.
Alarms set for 06:45 but usually awake at 06:00 or a bit earlier, I have to be up at 07:00 latest, half an hour earlier when commuting by bicycle.
I don't miss having to get out of bed at 04:30.
4.30-5am Monday to Sunday. If I try and stay in bed longer I feel like crap for the rest of the day. On the flip side of that, I very rarely see 9.30-10pm any more.
Its a habit I got into when I commuted by bike 5 days a week, as I need 40 minutes every morning to stretch all my broken bits - bad back +sciatica, neck, hammies etc etc etc.
Even though I don't commute that often due to WFH a lot now, I still wake and get up. When it's not lashing down, I'll even try and get a ride in pre-work.
Between 5 and 5:30, it's the only way I can develop a consistent routine with physio/core maintenance exercises.
Also good training for summer ridibg when getting up at sunrise is the only way to fit big miles around family life, get a 4 hour ride in and pick up breakfast rolls for family on way back through town 😎
Half an hour before I need to leave the house,
Jesus christ. It takes me an hour and a half to get out the door these days. I can do under an hour but that feels rushed. I like a leisurely breakfast.
Tend to wake about half seven, up by quarter to eight, to avoid thought for the day. I'm rarely in bed before midnight. Fail to understand why some early morning folk - who are weak in the evenings let's be honest - think this gives them some sort of higher ground.
It is annoying that let's call it bike culture has a bit of an early morning tradition. You're missing out on the spring and summer evenings when the hills are deserted. Surfing likewise with our beat the crowd dawnies. Though that can me more tide dictated depending on where/when.
weekdays 7:45 except Wednesday when when I get up at 6:30 to go to yoga
Weekends as late as possible
During lockdown I used to get up at 9:25 and go straight into the 9:30 stand-up meeting
5 when I'm working, about 10.30 when I'm not.
I do like a lie in.
3.05 am Monday - Friday. Usually around 6 at weekends. I feel really rough if I sleep in any later than that
You’re missing out on the spring and summer evenings when the hills are deserted.
You bring some hills to me and I'll head out in the evenings 😉😂
Depends what I have planned. Rarely before 7. Could be 10 or later. OTOH I'm also late to bed/sleep. Always have been. Never before midnight.
when I want. Except on Fridays, when i get rudely awakened by the dustmen.
(lie. My bladder makes me get up about half three. My dog, around half six. My preference - not much after that, I'm not really one for a lie in and never have been. If there were medals for lying in, my wife and kids would have every one going. At my age you need to extract what you can from the day, there aren't that many left......)
5.30 ish usually - its a bugger because I am retired. I just do not sleep any longer than that. So of course I'm falling asleep on the sofa at 10pm.
I often have a nap - I mean siesta in the afternoon
When i was younger i was a night owl but no longer
Driving in - 6:25
Cycling in - 6:00
Weekends - 6:30 -7:00 ish depending on how much grief my body is giving me or if the bloody dog is making a din.
Around 6.00. If I do wake up earlier, which I do more often when it’s getting light, I will get a ride in before breakfast. Really sets me up for the day.
I have never been any good at staying up late, usually to bed before 10.30.
5:50 out with dogs by 6, weekend back for a read after breakfast but only 30mins or so.
Saying that I see the alarm every day. Lately I'm awake at 0400. Stupid unwanted promotion.
4am weekdays as I start work at 6 and it's an hour's drive there. Weekends it can be anything from 4am to 10am depending on what I have to do and how knackered I am from a week's work. Need to get that all fixed as I'm constantly tired recently and struggle to relax.
When I was working it was 6:25, unless I had to get an early flight or train to somewhere. Now it's 7:15ish.
I get out of bed at 6:50am.
Drink two mugs of coffee while reading the internet, eat breakfast, shower, run dog and then start work at 9am.
This morning I got woken by the dog at 5am. Had to let her out. Then I fell asleep - sort of - until the alarm went.
If i get up at 5am I need to go back to bed at 10am !
Bedtime is 10pm and I normally last five minutes of reading if I'm lucky. If I make it to 7am I'm very pleased but generally between 630 and 7am. As soon as my mind is awake I'm up and out, I dont lie and snooze, I'd rather get down on the sofa and munch my breakfast and cuppa.
Seems I'm not typical, maybe I'm still a teenager.
Alarm about 8 when I'm working from home which is 95% of the time. I tend to stay up later than I should but try to get get 8 hours.
5:55 alarm Monday to Friday
5:55 at the weekend because god hates me.
8am , but would be later if it wasn't for those pesky kids
Half six alarm Monday to Friday, cos need to be up to walk the dog for an hour before work, put washing on etc.
Eight on a Friday, as MrsIHN doesn't work Fridays so she can do dog duties later in the morning.
Normally wake about eight/half eight at the weekend.
My alarm is a simulated sunrise with philips hue bulbs, which takes about half an hour to go from a low red light to bright white. That starts at 6 and I usually wake up after 15 to 20 mins. I have shutters on my windows so no early light sneaks in in summer. I usually go to bed around 10pm
Apparently everyone's body clocks work in 90 minute cycles, and we should sleep in a multiple of 90 mins. Finding the right time for yourself and then sticking to it consistently is meant to be best for long term health and feeling refreshed.
Some early birds but be also interesting to know when folk go to bed
WFH and my kids are older now so in the last few months Ive slipped back to staying in bed until about 8:00 and go to bed between 23:30-midnight
9 or 10 if I can, early mornings are miserable.
7am. same time as before i retired.
i have a 3 year old alarm clock grandson who makes sure i dont sleep longer.
7:15am weekdays, early enough for whatever I have planned at the weekends
15 mins before I have to leave the house on work days so usually 0730. On other days, whenever I'm hungry.
Wake up around 0430, get up at 0500. Have done since I stopped having to get up at 0330 to go to by produce and flowers at the wholesale market in Brum 20+ years ago
6.15am in the week.
Struggle to lie-in much past 7.00am at weekends.
6 - 6.30. I always set my alarm for 6.45 (just in case) and I’m always awake well before it. Soon as I’m awake I’m indulging in the breakfast of champions… caffeine and nicotine. The B&H were replaced by an E-cig many years ago, but I still start the day stood with the back door open and an Americano 😃
06:00. I am amazed at people who say they get up at 06:00 and do training before work. I don't start work particularly early but need to be up to get to work get kids up etc.
but I still start the day stood with the back door open and an Americano
It takes two Americanos to open my back door in the morning.
After getting up before 4 am as a postie for donkeys years now I’m retired wake up 6/7 o clock make a cuppa then take it back up to bed until 8 o clock 👌
Around 6:30 when commuting on the bike into the office, about 7:30 when WFH. Weekends usually 8-9am
Alarm goes off at 6 in the week, 7 most weekends for kids stuff or club rides.
I tend to wake at 6 most mornings, but roll over and go back off no problem at weekends. I think 7 is my natural "time", after 7-8 hours sleep.
I may have had a power nap mid morning today. It was a very dull 2.5 hour presentation and I'd decided to watch it propped up in bed rather than have the heating on...
No matter how hard I try (either to get up early or to lie in) I'm almost always up at 7. Same when I was working full time.
Usually wake between 5.30 and 6 then doze a bit.
In bed around 10.30, 20 mins reading, out like a light.
Some early birds but be also interesting to know when folk go to bed
+1
7:30 Mon-Thur, 7:05 Friday, 6:30 Saturday, and maybe 8:00 on Sunday. I rarely get to bed before 23:30 though. TBH I'd quite like to go to bed and get up earlier, but there's no way I could convince my wife...
I fear I would end up partially nocturnal if I didn't have a job to go to. As it is, twenty ish past seven weekdays usually after eight weekends. Years ago used to do shift work, liked finishing at 2pm, hated getting up at 5am, then swapping to 2-10pm the next week. At one point used to include night shifts too. Even worse.
Some early birds but be also interesting to know when folk go to bed
Weeknights 10.30pm but then I read for 30mins or so.
Weekends if we've not got friends round it'll be 10.30pm ish! Don't read at weekends, but will stick Bullseye on TV and set sleep-timer - soon nod-off! 🙂
but I still start the day stood with the back door open and an Americano
It takes two Americanos to open my back door in the morning.
Had a good lol at that one @Scotroutes 🙂
Some early birds but be also interesting to know when folk go to bed
Between 11 and midnight. Once you factor in getting up for a piss I get by on about 5 hours a night.
Usually 5:58 ish.... Alarm set for 6... Oh and I work from home so no commute, but I'd typically start working at about 6:30/45
Go to bed/sleep between 9 & 10 (I like my sleep)
generally I'm asleep around 10.30 - 11. and wake generally anywhere between 4.30 and 5.30. normally downstairs by 6. never set an alarm, simply cannot sleep any later. late nights still wake up the same time in the morning just feeling worse. often have to have a late afternoon nap as I'm knackered.
been like it since the kids destroyed my sleep routine. so coming up 8 years now.
would very much like to go back to needing an alarm...
Between 11 and midnight. Once you factor in getting up for a piss I get by on about 5 hours a night.
Not going to tell you how to live your life, but that's definitely not healthy. Personally one of the upsides to Covid was WFH - I rarely get less than 7 hours sleep a night, and I haven't had a migraine since 2020*. I used to tough it out with 6 hours sleep, 3-4 coffees a day, and at least one migraine a week... and that's ignoring the evidence that sleep deprivation is linked to dementia, Alzheimers and all sorts of fun stuff when you get old.
(*Now probably jinxed myself and tomorrow will be grim, but...)
Weekdays the alarm goes off at 6.10, usually already awake. Ride to school usually sat down at computer by 7.30. Weekends 7ish if I'm lucky do a shop ride most Saturdays which starts at 8 Sunday about the same, walk dog then take boy to rugby
Alarm at 5-45, snooze for an hour, then rush like mad to get to work, then on sat n sun 5am awake like a spring chicken 🤦♂️
Not going to tell you how to live your life, but that’s definitely not healthy.
I know, but after 5 or so hours I'm wide awake whether I like it or not.
Between 6.30 and 8.00 most days, depending what's going on. Given the chance I'll sleep later although not as much as I used to. Never usually in bed before 23.00.
Usually head to bed at 10.45 after the news, read for half an hour, so asleep by 11.15-11.30.
Once or twice a week I'll go up about 10 if I'm feeling particularly tired
I get up when I want, except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen....
Actually, it's anytime between 5 and 8. Once I'm awake, I'm awake.
Set alarm for 06:05 and either wake miles before it goes off or repeatedly hit snooze and then rush like mad. Not a morning person at all and it has got worse since Covid. Takes a lot of caffeine and most of the morning to wake up. Bed between ten and eleven most nights.
The awesomeness that is Mrs F lets me have a lie in on a weekend as I’m pretty much permanently shattered. Weekend will involve naps too. None of this is by choice. I’d much rather be doing stuff
Currently about 7am to 8am. Used to be 6am winter and 5am summer. I'm guessing I'll start getting up earlier in a few weeks.
In bed about 10:30. Read till 11:15 or whenever Mrs M comes up. Out of bed at 6:30 except on Sundays when absent a plan it’s 8:00. Think I’d be better off with an earlier sleep time, but compromise and all that. On holiday stay up later but enjoy an afternoon nap if the chance arises!
Later than I should
Earlier than I want
Actual times may vary
Evening more often
Later than I should
At least I didn't (quite) watch the rest of that crap movie
Early riser here, aim for bed at 930 but my watch tells me I fall asleep around 10.10 most nights. It works for me... definitely good for my mental health
Weekdays is 6:30am alarm after a 10:00pm to 10:30pm bedtime. Getting the 8 hours is important to keep my brain and body going at school.
Weekends is usually between 8:00am and 9:00am but bedtime's usually around 1:00am Friday and Saturday so I tend to sleep less at the weekends than in the week (although TBH Saturday and Sunday often see a nana nap sneak into the afternoon routine).
I swear I've never grown out of my teenage years, I just dont do early mornings. I wish I could. I envy those of you who wake up at 6am on the dot, no alarm... BING! AWAKE!
Weekdays I wake get up at 8:30 ish, after several alarms on my clock and watch, which I'll happily sleep through. I go to bed at midnight or just after.
Weekends, well that depends what time I get to sleep. If it's a late one, IE 2am (or later) I'll quite happily sleep right through to 10am, 11am, sometimes later.
I can get up early if I need to but it's a real struggle. And I have done a couple of years of commuting 100 miles a day when I was up at 5:45am, but I did not enjoy it one bit.
And before anyone says 'just go to bed earlier!' that just means I'll get 10 hrs sleep rather than 8.
I will quite happily sleep right through (even turning off in my sleep) multiple alarms.
As above, I'm somehow still on a teenager sleep schedule at the age of 41... 🤣
Usually around lunchtime/12ish
5:30 alarm, short snooze and then out of bed. Walk the dogs before shower then off to work for 7:30. Weekend is dependant on knackeredness, but usualy up and about by 8am.
Bedtime by 10pm come rain or shine, plus I'm a big fan of an afternoon nap if the opportunity arises.
I envy those of you who wake up at 6am on the dot, no alarm… BING! AWAKE!
I'm one of them it it annoys the hell out of me. 5.30 most mornings wide awake. I never used to be like this - only the last 5 years or so. I'd love to be able to lie in like I used to. To read in bed half the morning. NOpe! wide awake time to get up.
6am most days including the weekends. I really struggle to get up before then as before 6am should only be for holiday flights.
8am at the weekend can feel like a real lie in.
Up at 6:30 (generally don't sleep well these days anyway because of shoulder pain), feed myself & the dogs then out for a 2.5 - 3km xc run with the pooches before heading home for a shower and getting stuff ready and leaving for work about 8:25.
Anything between 4:50 and 6am depending on where in the country I need to be. Usually try to be on the road by 6:30.
Riding mornings it’s 4.30am or 4.45am in ‘winter’. It’s much easier in the sub tropics because you know it will get hot by 7am.
Earlier if the Kookaburras or Cockatoos demand.
Workouts it’s 5am.
Weekends 5-7am.
Rarely asleep any later than 10pm.
Dog wakes at 6-6:30. I feed him and go back to bed. Can sleep until 8:30 or later. Since having covid I’m rubbish in the mornings. Cycling is a challenge for sure. Used to be out of the door at weekends at 6:30 for a 100+ km each day.
First take offs are at about 6:45. First landings can be anytime from about 5:30 (or earlier). 400 planes take off over my house most days at about 2000 ft. Don’t really notice them 🤣. You do notice the landings though.
6:45am alarm to get the kids up and ready for school. If I’m not in the office I’ll often go back to bed once they’ve left.
Weekends I wake up early but usually go back to sleep until 9 ish. I rarely go to bed before midnight.
Retired now, but used to work shifts so getting back into a rhythm took a bit of getting used to.
Bladder usually gets me up by 6, and I struggle to get back to sleep again, so I'll feed the dog and let her out, take Mrs Scape a cuppa then get a couple of hours music practice in before breakfast.
Bedtime usually between 11 and midnight.
Alarm goes off at 6:30 and I get up around 7:15 for a 7:30 start at work. I’m not a morning person and no matter how hard I try I can’t get into a habit of rising early and exercising.
Go to bed around 11 and usually read til midnight.
If I nap during the day I can’t sleep at night.
Generally getting up at 7.30 - 8.00am at the moment but don't go to bed until 1.00am'ish. I'm a freelancer / interim manager so it depends on the work I am doing and whether I need to be in an office or not - in the past I have done the 6.30am alarms, but if I'm working from home it could be as late as 10.00am. I am definitely a night owl.
without an alarm between 4:00 and 5:00 every morning. Once I wake up at that time I am wide awake so no point in trying to get back to sleep. But I can nap for Britain later on!
