So - the fascia board on my gable end are shot and need replacing - they're timber, obviously, and evidently not very well preserved or treated.
The timber has a finished sized of 25x150mm I can only really estimate the length prior to getting the scaffold erected. I'd need two 4.8m lengths.
THe fascis are currently green, which fits with the property. I already have suitable undercoat, primer and paint (Sikkens)
How do you hand a fascia board without the Screw heads being evident? Fill and repaint over each screw? Whats the best filler? I could potentailly fasten the timbers from the reverse side as we have a generous open gable overhang.
Another issue is that the fascias stand slightly proud of the slates and ten have a "coping" which goes over the edge of the slates to form the verge. This was in softwood and looked to all intents and purposes time the coping youd fit to a fence panel. I need something to replace this that wont just rot (is suspect that this, along with the nails into the fascia were the cause of the original fascia failure. Should a just use a smaller flat timber (15x65mm) or some kind of moulding?
Any advice from resident timber experts much appreciated
