[Closed] What tick treatment for my Springer?

We live in rural Snowdonia and our walks from the house takes us onto footpaths that are now full of sheep and lambs. As a consequence, despite dosing the dog with Bob Martins tick treatment, we are taking 3-4 per day off her. We can see them walking on her white patches. We also find v fat ones that have fed on her, but seem dead.
Any recommendations for a treatment for a 12kg Springer?
Thanks
Ian

The reason you find fat dead ones might be that the treatment is working? I doubt the treatment discourages the ticks to either get on her or even to make them jump off.

We use a Seresto collar on our pointer and we rarely find a tick on him, if we do they're not only dead but haven't seemed to have attached themselves either. He is obviously a short haired dog so the collar may not work on yours but they have been great.

We live in very rural France and he would come into contact with ticks pretty much every day.

Hope that helps

Collar here too.

Dirtiest spaniel ever no ticks with the collar.

Dead ticks suggest your treatment works. I use Bravecto chewable tablet for my spaniel. It's hard to buy online as you need a vet prescription so I have to get it from vet and pay about £30. I give it to her when I find the first tic of the season and that sees her through to winter. 100% successful, she never gets a tic after having it. No side effects either

Fairly common knowledge that if you can buy the tick treatment over the counter (supermarket and the like) it won't really be worth the cost of it. Seresto from the vets is the best I've used and I buy one every time we visit rural France to see my folks. She went from 12 in one day (with one almost in her eye) to zero for the whole two weeks.

Best ones will be from your vet. Either Bravecto or Nexguard are my favoured ones as they are simple to give tablets. Seresto does work well as a collar too.

Best we've come across so far is Bravetco (also the easiest to administer and quite spendy!).... Not tried a collar.

I used to enjoy removing them from my Fell terrier and throwing them on the fire.Treatments outlined above are superior obviously.

Thanks all, my vet in quite a lockdown state but i will phone them in the morning.
I gues a sort of anti tick force field was à little unrealistic!

My Springer has Nexguard Spectra tablet once a month. Sorts flees and she doesn't seem to get ticks with it. We do have deer where we walk so there are plenty of the little critters in the grass. Also used a collar from the vets when she was a little pup and that worked great too but cant remember the brand.

We use Bravecto in very rural France too. It works very well for us, though it certainly isn't cheap but it works which is the main thing.

A word of caution re the collars. We had one of those for a brief period on our previous Springer. One day I was out with him, he shot off after a deer, straight through a dense patch of brambles. it took ages to get in and cut him free, luckily no harm done but it could have turned out differently.

Nexguard for our two Cockers, seems to work well, we found a few live ticks in the cottage last time in N Wales that could only have come in on them and dropped straight off. It's what our friend, also our vet, recommended given they love nothing more than thrashing through undergrowth.

Another Bravecto user with 2 Working Cockers. It works by killing any tick that bites, so it immediately dies and drops off. No issues in 5 years and Susex is known for Ticks.

Started our dog off on Bayer Advantix but it damaged his fur and he got a tick, spoke to our vets who then advised Bravecto, took his word bought it but then googled it. No way would I give this to my dog so binned it. Searched for a natural alternative as it seemed wrong making a dogs blood toxic to fleas/ticks.

Have been using Cooper and Gracie natural flea spray for the last 18months.
My dog is a Karelian Bear Dog and we track deer with him on anything between moorland and deep scrub. Not had any issues with fleas or ticks since.

You need to spray it on everytime you go out and it costs ~£15 a month.
