You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Why on earth would we want big heavy long range bombers? they've been long found to be useless just like the huge battleships. The US B52's are all for show and only kept flying as a symbol of strength for the benefit of the American people. Their actual military value if anything kicked off would be very limited. You can spot and shoot down a B52 from other continents they're so hot and in-stealthy. Similarly the Bear. Even submerged submarines can hear them coming from hundreds of miles away, what hope would they stand if things kicked off.
The fact Russian 'long range' cruise missiles need to be carried on large, lumbering heavy bombers suggests they're not all that good. The point of a cruise missile is that it can be launched from a land base / ship / submarine etc. many miles away and doesn't need to be carried close to the target by an aircraft. The cruise missiles they used in Syria showed the capabilities of the Russian cruise missile technology where not many more than half actually hit their target...or even made it to their targets.

The best response would be to ignore them but it gives our pilots something to do and makes good sabre-rattling headlines for those that don’t understand international law."</span>
Well UK airspace is not necessarily that far off the coast so these things could get pretty close if left alone, but ultimately it has nothing to do with international law.... There is something unfriendly about another nation flying military aircraft towards our airspace unannounced and veering away at the last minute...it's provocative behaviour and we'd be foolish not to respond as if it were a real threat. And we get understandably twitchy about any unannounced aircraft flying towards UK airspace in the post 9/11 world. Would only take one disgruntled Russian Bear pilot and the consequences could be pretty terrible.
It is all for show to the Russian population of course, but still, no other nation exhibits the same behaviour and its behaviour that has ramped up recently so on its own is not a concern, but is one element of a whole pattern of behaviour from Putin. he's like a naughty kid....if you ignore him, like we have for the last ten years or so, he becomes emboldened...always testing the limits and trying to push them. The only way to deal with him is to remind him where the red lines are drawn, just as you would with a naughty kid.

See also nuclear weapons, it's all about show and keeping the people in line back home.
Background checks on our two Russian ‘civilian tourists’ has shown connections with the Russian defence ministry, their tickets were booked at the last minute via an agency no used by civilians:
As far as the B-52 and Tupolev ‘Bear’ bombers are concerned, both have undergone significant recent upgrades, the Buff no longer has underwing pylons, and now has rotary bomb-bays, in order to make the aircraft cleaner and more efficient, the rotary magazines are designed to carry smart weapons and cruise missiles far beyond what their conventional range would be. Neither are what would traditionally be called ‘heavy bombers’, because they no longer carry heavy loads of conventional dumb ‘iron bombs’, carpet bombing large swathes of civilian populations isn’t considered politically expedient these days...
Man and woman taken ill at Prezzo tonight. Understandable precautions are in place, and we can only hope its not related.
🙁
I pray this is unrelated.
Some of the businesses have had a hard time and they've put lots of effort into trying to get things back to normal down here.
The other day I noticed how nice the flowering displays were outside The Mill. It's a great place and I hope it doesn't get tarnished any more.

See my post last Saturday. There's resilience there. The city is still busy, and as long as we can have a Reeves cheese straw or four, life is good!
No link. A huge sigh of relief.
(Also, using RT as a source here...? 😀 )
a source close to scaredypants suggests that these are a pair of attention-seeking ****wits
If it does turn out to be a hoax, they should be charged with the cost for all medical treatment, all emergency services costs and any loss of business. That would wipe their stupid faces, pair of ****wits.
Agreed.
and deported to a wasteland in Russia.
I watched the BBC News earlier and it seems like these two were making a whole load of money on the back of this fabrication !
Bloody idiots.
Should have put them in "protective" isolation for 4 weeks, maybe in a cellar up at Porton. Just to be safe.
Captain, you've got it wrong. It's not cheese straws you need it's Reeves sourdough (preferably cut very thick, lightly toasted with lashings of butter and honey)
Henderson's for bread on the rate occasions I buy it, Jerry! Hope you're well!
Had a guest appearance a few weeks ago and totally forgot to mention it. Might be more in December...
As I'm currently an unemployed person I expect I'll only be looking :). Looking forward to it Cap'n.
So every single news article on the recent fake poisoning has disappeared. Why the news embargo?
this hasn't
and it says: "
A spokesman for the Sun told the BBC: "Like any newspaper, we were keen to talk to those at the centre of the incident and give them the opportunity to share with the public their version of events."
The article has since been removed from the newspaper's website "for legal reasons"."
So every single news article on the recent fake poisoning has disappeared. Why the news embargo?
Fingers crossed that it's so as not to prejudice a prosecution
It's still on the Graun, the Beeb and more...
Jerry, sorry to hear that! Fingers crossed for you.
I must admit I thought it looked dodgy when I saw that front page.
It was on the BBC evening news. I’ve got some big heavy books that could be thrown at them. Or just swung at their heads. Hard. Repeatedly.
I'm as confused as ever about the whole affair, but much of the official story still does not hold true.
Craig Murray?
Really?
Quite the forensic refutal you've developed there. Nothing constructive to add so all you have is a shit attempt at acerbic wit?
Craig Murray is hardly neutral when it comes to this stuff though is he? The article may as well be "10 things you didn't know about James Bond written by Blofeld
Who is neutral? The BBC?
Want to have a go at taking apart that article or are you another CaptainFlashheart? *
* I bet he's not even a real captain.
Makes you think ...
I cant comment on every point in the link scotroutes, however point 2 can be countered. The text for point 2 is highlighted below. Did Sky News actually say that the roof had been removed due to contamination with novichok and if so how accurate is their reporting? I read reports that the roof had been removed as part of the decontamination procedure which is quite different.
The author bases the entire point around the area of greatest contamination being the roof leading to speculation that the Skripals were involved somehow, presumably either storing it there or manufacturing it there. That is a huge assumption with huge repercussions.
I have been involved in remediation of contaminated land but obviously not novichok contaminated homes. It seems perfectly reasonable that once the level and extent of the contamination has been assessed that specialist teams would require a clean lay down area in the house for processed and bagged materials, tools, lab equipment, first aid facilities and a coffee machine. If the source of highest contamination is on and around the front door and downstairs rooms, it makes sense to bring processed and clean materials up to the loft. Once there it wouldn't be taken back down into a contaminated zone. You could break open a hole in the roof easily and that could be the access and egress point. With the amount of scaffolding around the building safe access throught the roof could easily be established.
If this was the lay down area it would then make sense to tidy that up on retreat.
2) Raising the Roof
Three days ago Sky News had an outside broadcast from the front of the Skripals’ house in Salisbury, where they explained that the roof had been removed and replaced due to contamination with “novichok”.
I cannot believe that a gel, allegedly smeared or painted onto the doorknob, migrated upwards to get into the roof of a two storey house, in such a manner that the roof had to be destroyed, but the house inbetween did not. As the MSM never questions the official narrative, there has never been an official answer as to how the gel got from the doorknob to the roof. Remember that traces of the “novichok” were allegedly found in a hotel room in Poplar, which is still in use as a hotel room and did not have to be destroyed, and an entire bottle of it was allegedly found in Charlie Rowley’s house, which has not had to be destroyed. Novichok was found in Zizzi’s restaurant, which did not have to be destroyed.
So we are talking about novichok in threatening quantities – more than the traces allegedly found in the hotel in Poplar – being in the Skripals’ roof. How could this happen?
As I said in the onset, I do not know what happened, I only know what I do not believe. There are theories that Skripal and his daughter might themselves have been involved with novichok in some way. On the face of it, its presence in their roof might support that theory.
The second thing I do not believe is that the Skripals’ roof became contaminated by gel on their doorknob so that the roof had to be destroyed, whereas no other affected properties, nor the rest of the Skripals’ house, had to be destroyed.
So in this conspiracist the Chief nurse of the army “attended “ the deployment of a deadly chemical which later killed one person and decided to bring her civilian daughter along, let her carry out a bit of first aid and then knowing it was all a bit secret squirrel black ops put her daughter up for a local rags award.
Not heard of Craig Murray before, don’t think I’ve missed much
Point 1 is basically speculation (and that's a kind word for it) unless he has a definitive understanding of what they mean by 'pure'.
I can speculate wildly too- the chemical structure is excellent but the general material is not clean. If you want to analyse the material origin you're going to be looking at that structure, not the environmental contamination. No idea if that's true, but it's at least as plausible as 'oh the fact they said it was pure must mean it hadn't been on there long enough to be contaminated'.
STOP THE PRESS
Conspiracy theorist believes convoluted unlikely conspiracy theory generated by well known conspiracy theorist.
AS YOU WERE
I notice that he obliquely mentions in paragraph 4 that his stage 1 conspiracy theories about Salisbury were vapourised by the evidence of the presence of the KGB chuckle brothers.
Predictably, this doesn't mean he was "wrong" only that the "conspiracy goes deeper and is more convoluted than we previously suspected".
He also thinks Alex Salmond has been framed.
I rest my case, under the fundamental legal principle of "man wearing clown shoes is a ****ing clown".
Point 4: He finds it odd that the head of nursing in the Army lives in Salisbury? The nearest large town to perhaps the highest concentration of Army personnel in the country.
OK its a coincidence fo'shure, but its hardly the stuff of conspiracy is it?
