And you thought the Brexit referendum was close...

I'm sad the peace process is delayed but can understand the veiws of those thinking the rebels were getting off too lightly after what has happened.
This one will run and run.
They also balked at the government's plan to pay demobilised Farc rebels a monthly stipend and to offer those wanting to start a business financial help.
"No" voters said this amounted to a reward for criminal behaviour while honest citizens were left to struggle financially.
Many also said that they simply did not trust the rebels to keep their promise to lay down arms for good.
They pointed to previous failed peace negotiations when the rebels took advantage of a lull in fighting to regroup and rearm as evidence that the Farc had broken their word before.
Others were unhappy that under the agreement, the Farc would be guaranteed 10 seats in the Colombian Congress in the 2018 and 2022 elections.
Without knowing much more than the above, it does seem like it was an extremely generous deal for FARC.
Which goes to show roughly 50% of any country's population are idiots - as the USA will shortly be demonstrating.

That's either an obvious troll, or a spectacularly uninformed opinion.
Nearly a quarter of a million dead, six million displaced, the links to drug trade making the country violently unstable. Then offering a favourable peace deal to the terrorists. Its not difficult to see how a lot of the law-abiding populace who live in fear of kidnap etc might view this as terrorism triumphing.
I suggest a bit more background reading - or just not trolling.

Donald Trumps lawyers will be very unhappy at that inference 😉
I take it dannyh that you were also opposed to any agreement with the IRA?

The Referendum was about that specific agreement with FARC
Would the British people have agreed to Tony Blair's Government's agreement with the IRA if we had known all the details oncluding the extent of the "no prosecution" letters ? Not sure.

Which is why referendums are such a bad idea and why we live in represntative democracies
my immediate thoughts were parallels with the IRA too with hindsight, those no prosecution letters, no matter how distatsefull, still look like like an excellent trade off compared to this continuing for the last 30 years
youd have to be an idiot to want a return to those days
Pablo Escobar set the standard..

Nope, and to be honest, I don't know if I would be pro- or anti- the FARC agreement what with me not living in Colombia and having been subjected to decades of intimidation and fear. Doh!
I just think that to dismiss the people who voted against the agreement as "stupid" is crass in the extreme - especially if you haven't lived the life and gone into the detail of the agreement.
Of course peace is desirable - but at what cost?
It must be great living in your black-and-white world.
Leaving details of a ceasefire to a referendum is stupidity. Better of flipping a coin.
Ceasefire is still in place I believe, the referendum was just for this specific peace deal.
Must be a really difficult choice. FARC came about in response to a brutally oppressive regime and was formed by poor farm and land workers and numbered some 22,000 at it's peak.
