You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have a 21 year old Citroen c5 estate, and although mechanically it is just about ok, its electrical system is decaying almost visibly. Every time I go to use it something else has stopped working. Last thing was the tailgate FFS!
Anyway, done some very amateur electrics on it,because there was no power coming from the front of the car to the door catch and release, I've run a wire from the fag lighter in the boot (I know they love a gauloise, but why?) up to the catch and then forward to the rear seats. There are now two bare wires which if touched together open the tailgate, marvelous!
.
TL:DR I need a switch that if pressed immediately returns to off, pushing against a spring, so that it can't be left permanently on (which would probably burn it down). What is this type of switch called so I can search one out on ebay or somewhere? Thanks in anticipation.
A non latching switch (or momentary) I think.
Your original fault it likely with the bundle of wires running from the car into the tailgate which flex each time its opened and eventually break.
Non latching or impulse. Screwfix sell them, but why not use a bell push?
This place never fails!
Thanks to all of you for your sugestions, there are plenty on ebay under non latching.
But STM's bell push idea is genius.
@rockhopper I don't have power to the multi plug before the tailgate bellows and CBA to trace it all the way back to the front, hence my medieval wiring solution.
I’ve run a wire from the fag lighter in the boot (I know they love a gauloise, but why?)
Auxiliary power. So you can run a coolbox in the box (or jury-rig the tailgate).
Ah yes, you are right. Rather spoils my idea of Jean Paul sitting on the tailgate, looking out over his vineyard and sparking up a Gitanes after a hard days pruning or something.
Retractive push to make switch.
