You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Now that summers here its time to get the massive consignment of factor asbestos sun creme bought. I've been using reimann p20 for years as I like the 'apply and forget' staying power and the fact it drys nicely (I HATE greasy creme) so before I buy a load more, what else is good??
If it makes any difference, it'll be for sailing, long bike rides, swimming, holiday activities as well as general days in the garden.
P20.
I'm gingerish - P20, swear by it, never burn and get a reasonable tan.
Safest to just stay inside I'd say.
Don't be breeding whilst you're in there though...
😉
Oh. Just looked and they do different factors now. Might get some factor 50 for surfing as I still get fried in the summer.
Sailing or swimming - get a Stinger suit as used in North Queensland. Basically a skinsuit, like this:

And wear a broadbrimmed hat. A Buff is very useful too.
Avoid magic potions as much as possible.
Whitewash.
I like Banana Boat- it can be a wee bit oily but it goes on really well.
Another ginger voting for P20 here 😆
AloeGator sun cream. Like P20. Apply once a day. SPF 40 I think. A bit oily, but it's PABA free. P20 is PABA based and brings me out in hives.

a hat, clothes with SPF protection.....
Ginger in Tassie - no Ozone here
Ambre Solaire factor 20-50 Clear Protect non-greasy spray has been my mainstay since it was launched (originally SPF10, I think).
That and a lightweight microfibre Tilley hat, which has travelled the world.
MC1R homozygous here. Ginger from the day I was born. History of skin cancer in the family too. I don't burn because I take precautions. I was once a little brown after a dull wet summer as a lifeguard, never since. At least the kids inherited their mother's olive skin.
Ultrasun, is like a more up to date p20. I used to use p20 but i find this stuff better now.

I use the sports formula as a splash all over protection, then add factor 50 to my cheekbones nose and the back of my neck. I burn very very easily.
P20
what else is good??
Live in Scotland 😉
I'll take a look at ultra sun and see if I get on with it otherwise I'll continue with p20. Generally I cover up (but my tilley hat is hemp not microfiber - its very weathered) but sometimes you can't help it and I'm doing ironman Barcelona this year so there will be plenty training rides
Cheers (a bald, ginger expat Scot)
I'm a fan of this stuff - ProSport Sunscreen - It's worked well for windsurfing / marathons / etc. Most importantly it doesn't mix into your own sweat to sting your eyes unlike most other creams.
You don't need any form of protection from the sun you wus 😀 My (non Ginger) 12 year old reliably informs me that Ginger's have a much higher pain threshold than mere mortals. It's been empirically tested in the playground apparently with repeatable results.
MTFU I'm afraid 😀 Next thing you'll be wanting advice on moisturising 😉

I have proper easily burning Celtic skin also and like P20 but it does stain clothes. A good alternative is the Banana Boat Powder Dri in the link provided. Goes on as cream and as the name suggests dries to a light powder. Cheaper than P20 too!
I use asdas own brand kids spray spf 50 waterproof non sticky and it has a monkey on the bottle cheep too and its in a ginger bottle!!!!
Piz Buin once a day is very good too.
