As above.
I need speakers to connect to my Laptop.
Max budget is £150 and would prefer if they are not jack plug.

What plug do you want/need then? With that sort of money you'd be better off splitting it between a half decent USB soundcard and some speakers, the sound from most PC's and laptops is crap designed to be heard through crappy in built speakers or headphones.

Do they have to be active then?

If I had £150 I'd buy a set of secondhand standmounters and a cheap amp, but maybe that's not for you?

Pair of active studio monitors will do the job nicely, and not too big.

eg. M-Audio AV40 for about £100.

I have no idea what I actually want. The jack plug is a bit dodgy on my macbook - works intermittently.
I just need good sound instead of the tinny squeaks I currently get. It's my only source of music in the house.

USB soundcard then, and a set of small active monitors I guess.
