Other than 'a broken one' - it doesn't seem to match anything I can find online and I'd lke to have a go at replacing some of the broken ones.  Or at least think I can before getting a roofer to do a proper job.

One of these:

on second thoughts, no it isn't.

It looks like the profile of a Redland 49 or a Marley Ludlow Major but I don't think it's either of those.

Yeah I've had a look at the usual suppliers but drawn a blank.  Obvious next step is to ask on STW, then if necessary humiliate myself at a proper roofing merchant,

take remains to your local SIP roofing or similar they will ID it and order some up. - not sure why you humiliate your self . from previous experiance there nowt worse than someone turning up whos done a little research and knows enough to be dangerous but not enough to be useful 😀

did this yesterday for a pile of rosemarys for my roof turns out because the red (similar colour to yours) is standard fair for almost all period local cooncil hooses they were in stock 😀

old style clay tile, doubtful that you'll get from a merchant.

That's not a Marley Ludlow but you might get away with that as a replacement. Problem will be that your tile will be Imperial and they are now metric. You might be best swapping it for one the nearest colour. If you ask Marley for a sample they send you one free. I suggest you choose the nearest colour and try that.

Cheers

Scott

If you mean a pantile its not a pantile its a very new style!

If you cannot get ones the same could you remove the bottom line (closest to the gutter) and redo it with with different styled ones and use the ones you've taken off to fix the rest of the roof.

Did I mentioned pantile?  Could be lucky and pick up something from reclaim yard but a merchant wont have that.

Have a look on ebay for reclaimed tiles

What’s holding them ridge on..?

Find your nearest reclaimed yard or roofers supplier that also does reclaimed and take that along.

You’re not gonna get any from a run of the mill supplier

I asked one of my colleagues and he'd also thought it was a Redland 49 but that the detail on the long edges which is supposed to be interlocking is wrong and the length is a little too short. His recommendation is to try somewhere like  https://www.jjroofingsupplies.co.uk

Thanks all, sounds like it might turn out to be hard work to find for someone with no contacts. Might be simpler to contact a couple of decent local roofers and see what they can find.  The battens are a bit ropey where the tiles were broken so I was expecting it to be one of those jobs that grows as you uncover it.

Edit - though looking at the site aP linked above we may have a winner

+1 for reclamation yard unless you can actually identify what it is then the internet is your oyster.

What part of the country are you in and was there a local manufacturer?

Are there similar tiles on roofs around you or any derelict buildings with same?

If you find a source get some spares.

That Belgian one looks different to my untrained eye.  How about trying the roofing section of DIYnot forum, or infiltrate a facebook group for roofing.

Looks like a French tile this is the closest I can find .

https://goo.gl/images/dA5K9x Your best bet is to ring a old fashioned roofing merchants as they sometimes come across these tiles .

Not like any roof tile I’ve ever seen in the UK, not that I’ve been to every part of it, but most parts I’ve been to where there are old buildings their tiles are either red clay pantiles or slate or Cotswold stone.

Well, this thread is oddly satisfying.

It seams to me that local suppliers rather than 'the internet' would be a better search. Roof tiles aren't very portable in the volumes they're bought in so whoever installed the roof would have bought them from somewhere nearby, if they were bought nearby then lots of houses nearby would have used them and local suppliers (even if not the ones that sold them originally)  would have likely stocked spares.

The same goes for reclamation - unless they are particularly sought after the reclamation yards likely to have stocks of them will the ones closest to the suppliers that originally sold them and the house that originally had them on their roofs, because again people aren't going to transport a roof's worth of material further than they have to.

Are you seeing the same tiles on other peoples houses locally? Or is your roof completely unique to the area.

Do you have a balaclava, a  ladder and a torch? 😉

Just wait til they go on holiday - then you can do it in broad daylight. I knew a guy who had his whole front drive stolen while he was on his hols.

Next door's garage has the same tiles (but no spares and as we've already asked them any nocturnal disappearance is going to be suspicious). I've tried a couple of local reclamation yards too but no luck. Most of the other garages on the road have been knocked down /converted so no spares further afield either.

Buy enough new tiles to do next doors garage and do swapsies?

Assume you're replacing tiles on the house rather than your own garage?

Alas Mr Perch, its our garage wot needs fixing, a few tiles that had been mortared back together when we moved in are now leaking

Maybe we can recoup the costs of reroofing our garage by selling the tiles to next door after theirs are broken in a "heavy hail storm" while they're away...
