As above - feel I am being fobbed off by the garage saying that its the DVD player that is causing fuses to keep blowing in my 18 month old A6 (I never had this using the same players in my old A6 nor in my wife's Mazda 3).
They say that the fuses in the cigarette lighters are rated for no more than a 100w draw. Surely the heating element needed for the lighter would take a higher draw that a dual screen DVD player????
Buy an extension lead or splitter from poundland or similar. That will have a lower value fuse in it. That will isolate the DVD player and may help show if it is the problem. The player should have the rating on it but I would expect it to be a few amps if working properly. A faulty one could draw a lot more and blow fuses.
Extensions rated at 10 amps. Two 55 watt floods or beacons but not both. Would have thought a DVD and screens would be 5 amps or thereabouts .
100W / 12V = 8A. Is there any indication on the player or its PSU as to what power / current it might draw?
Which "fuses" are being blown and what ratings?
I need to go home to check the rating but the above is useful.
BTW, it is two DVDs sharing one split power supply (each has it's own rechargeable battery) rather than one DVD with two screens if that makes any difference.
Bonus - moaned like hell about this and they gave me the whole service for free including a valet for the car. !!!'
