Granddaughter gets a mixture of;

Big A little a - Crass.
Work Rest Play Die - The Subhumans.
Jacques Coustaeu Loves Anchovies - Here & Now.
Strawberries - Blyth Power.

All very jolly tunes, I'm sure you'll agree.

She's only four months old so she can't complain about it yet.

😀

I don't know any of those songs. I thought Hey Diddle Diddle was just a nursery rhyme, no idea there was a tune.

I may have to try some of them though, none of our songs are working tonight.

Ramble On. Led Zeppelin
Man Who Sold The World. David Bowie.

Mocking bird.

Hush little baby don't say a word
Daddy's gonna buy you a mocking bird...

I have sang that for 5 years now.

I've sung the mockingbird song too but I only know the first two or three things so I start making them up. Making up the gifts isn't that hard, but finding something you can fit both it and its actions into the required number of syllables is. And rhyming is impossible.

You said it. 🙂

I find starting an octave lower than you think is the only way to get through it without scaring the bejesus out of him with a falsetto.

No singing here, 3 books (each!) then a lullaby CD goes on, to drown out the noise/sleep-preventing-distraction of the other child's story-telling.

Stavro Jnr. was usually happy with "Bobby McGee" (Kristofferson version). Once made the mistake of singing Danny boy and he went bezzy, his name's Danny and he thought I was taking the P1ss.

You are my sunshine
10 little monkeys jumping on the bed
Plus some of the others above

When we were kids my dad used to sing 2 Little Boys to my brother and I. Fond childhood memories slightly tarnished

For reasons unclear, my eldest (aged 2y11m) insists on Cammell Laird Social Club (and in particular When The Evening Sun Goes Down) being played at bathtime.

My son always wanted my out of tune rendition of Bob Marleys Redemption Song and my daughter has been requesting Away in a manger every night for nearly two years now (although we change Jesus' name to to Geoffrey to remove religious connotations)

Hop little bunnies.

See the bunnies sleeping till it’s nearly noon
Shall we wake them with a merry tune?
They`re so still, are they ill?
Wake up little bunnies!
Hop little bunnies, hop, hop, hop
Hop little bunnies, hop, hop, hop
Hop little bunnies, hop and..........stop

This was a 'time to go up to bed' song rather than 'at the bedside' and it became a bit of a headache actually. Because anyone present, including grandparents, had to lie on the floor and then leap into action as per the song, which then further became refined by the gap between the last hop and stop being of my daughter's choosing. So sometimes longer than a progrock guitar solo, which was often beyond the hopping capabilities of an arthritic septuagenarian.

Great days....in hindsight. Don't wish them away, you'll miss them when they're growed up.

It was " holiday in Cambodia " but since he started to respond to words twinkle twinkle little star , I do get some of the words wrong we both deliberately sing out of tune and try to make the last r of the last star last for as long as possible.

The sirens are screaming in the fires of hell
and we're down in the valley tonight
There's a man in the shadows with a gun in his eye
And a blade shining oh so bright
There's evil in the air and there's thunder in the sky
And a killer's on the bloodshot streets
And down in the tunnel where the deadly are rising
I swear I saw a young boy
Down in the gutter
He was starting to foam in the heat ……

The wheels on the bus
Summertime
Scarborough fair

To be honest, they are alot better singers than I am. Though my youngest thinks that Louise Armstrong is a monkey (she loves the king of the swingers scene in the jungle book with louise playing louise).

Go to sleep my baby
Twinkle twinkle
What's going on ( Marvin Gaye's and Three Non Blonde's version)
1 little 2 little 3 little numbers

My sister used to lull her firstborn to sleep with ICP's Boogie Woogie Woo
I'm liking the little lord Geoffrey idea above. We negated the same problem with our kids in time honoured Exeter tradition of telling them that 'the little lord Jesus woke up and he said - WE HATE ARGYLE'

@fruitbat - brilliant choice we sometimes sing jollity farm, and play lots of the other tracks of donut in grannies greenhouse.

Another favourite to sing is the monty python meaning of life song -

"Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving and revolving at 900 miles and hour
its orbiting a 90 miles a second so it's reckoned, a sun which is the source of all our power"

(May not be word perfect as the words have been going round my head for many years!)

Other odd songs we sing are from the album 'an evening wasted with tom lehrer', singing poisoning pigeons in the park may not be PC but its v funny. My 10 year old wants to be able to sing the whole of the elements song - he's a way off acheiving that yet. I suppose I have my dad to that for these as he used to play them to my brother and I, weird old hippy bending out brains!

Wheels on the bus
Bicycle Made for two
The brass band refrain from Wallace and Gromit "A Grand Day Out". This:

But more noisy and out of tune!

I still haven't found what I'm looking for by U2 and Whose That Girl by the Eurythimics.

Sadly both kids are now teenagers and more musical than me.They can sing most things beautifully. But sadly when they sing these 2 they reproduce all my pitch errors perfectly. Last heard last night while he was trying to figure out how to play it on the guitar

When my son was born we didn't know what to call him, the names in mind before hand didnt seem right. I started singing a son called Lovers Sky by Masters of Reality to him and he stopped crying on the chorus which goes "Eli, Eli, how lost am I, In your Lovers Sky".

Eli will be 12 soon 🙂
