Hi everyone, After suggestions for a good sleeping bag and mat or air bed. They are going to be used in back of van and camping while away with bikes, weight not a issue as they will be kept in van no bike packing yet. What do you all recommend? , after some research a synthetic sleeping bag seems best I think.
Honestly, go buy a cheap mattress from Ikea and use a normal sheet and a duvet. Cheaper, easier and washable.
If you do go down the air mat route, I can thoroughly recommend a vango Shang ri la. Have used it loads and most recently last night in the van. I combine with a slumberland one piece duvet and cover which is synthetic and basically it’s mint. Proper nights sleep.
Van and camping (in big tent) - Thermarest Mondo King, not cheap £220 but very comfy.
If you were going for a regular mattress and leaving it in the van for a while, it's worth creating an air-gap between bottom of mattress and floor - to reduce condensation.
This sort of stuff https://shipshapebedding.co.uk/shop/dry-mat/dry-mat-anti-condensation-underlay-single/?
This is amazingly comfy - just like a proper bed if you get a decent air mattress on top. Not cheap by any means but if you’ve got the space and money it makes sleeping away sooooo much better:

If you have an idea of what particular sleeping bag you want, they go for absolutely nothing on eBay. There's one called the Pod which js double width - better than sleeping in a tiny mummy position if you have the space...
For car/van camping the Vango Shangri la is amazing.
If that's too spendy, go outdoors do a similar mattress under the Berghaus brand that's not as good but still very comfortable.
Big fat cheap synthetic-filled sleeping bag plus the fattest inflatable, but foam insulated / self-inflating mat you can buy for a reasonable price. Alpkit Dozer is decent, though not super cheap.
The advantage of self-inflating mats, is you can stow them away rather more neatly than a proper mattress, which may or may not be a consideration. Also more damp / dirt resistant.
These self inflating mattresses/airbeds can be packed away quickly - I literally just roll it up once I undo the deflation valve - goes away in less than a minute. The storage bag also doubles up as a quick inflation sack ! the down side is they aren't super compact, but still significantly smaller than a mattress.
Thermarest Mondo King 3D - the most comfortable you can get. Great for the colder months too.
