i'm looking to build up a new set of decent metric spanners, at the moment i'm looking at halfords advanced and waiting until they have deals, can anyone recommend any other brands i should look at that offer good quality but not snap on level prices.

are britool worth a look?

i bought a halfords advanced socket set a while ago and its pretty good i think and the sale prices are good when they have them hence thinking about the halfords stuff?

more car use than cycles btw.

Draper expert aren't bad.  Bought a magnusson adjustable spanner the other day and it's pretty good too for being cheap.  Yes britool are good, well they were 20 years ago I would have seen them as good as snap on.

I'm happy enough with Halfords, lifetime guarantee with them so it's a no brainer for me, never have to worry about buying again ( unless halfrauds goes bust)

Halfords Advanced sets get big discounts regularly. Think my socket set was £10, and it's definitely a lot better than cheap ones from Amazon.

I've got Bahco metric ones and Teng Imperial ones, both are excellent and very reasonably priced, compared to the Snap-On stuff anyway, would recomend either. The Bahco ratchet ring spanners are expecially brilliant.

I earn my money with spanners in the chemical industry and wrenching my car's.

CK - crap nowadays but they did do some good stuff in the past.

Draper - utter crap

Britool - used to be good but bought out and a few years ago and had a quality drop. I've also had flaking plating issues with Britool spanners.

Gedore are my spanner of choice. German quality, sensible prices, wide product range.

Halfords stuff is good for the money - I have a set of ratchets at home and we have a set at work that get abused without issues.

Halfords stuff when on offer for me. Had some of their “professional”sockets and spanner’s for years which have seen some good use and been good.

Facom, 440 range are so nice to use

Halfords advanced/pro is ok, good value when half price. Convenient as they are open a lot so easy to buy/warranty/replace etc.

Britool is a cheaper brand now, still better than real cheap crap, but not as good as it was.

I would have a look at Teng as well.

My Halford Professional set must be 20 years old now. One of the ratchets is a bit dodgy, but other than that faultless....

This is the answer. A bit pricey for 3 spanners, but each has 4 sizes so from 8 to 19mm. Quality kit.

I just picked up some King Dick from primetools, seem nicely finished and weren’t crazy expensive. Though they were more than Halfords advanced.

I had Britool, Draper expert and Halfords Professional from 15 years ago or so, unfortunately a bit of Internet research showed that quality on all 3 of those brands has gone downhill and put me off buying new now.

I’ve got a mixture of good and not so good spanners. Gedore, Bahco, Stahlwille, and a few Snap On.

I bought some Halfords ratchet spanners on offer a few years ago. They are easily as good as the above, often at a fraction of the cost.

Go Halfords if it was my money.

Halford’s Pro here too.  I’ve some Facom also and Gedore but most times the Halford’s are the go to.

I've got a lot of Facom also got a few Halfords Professional. Had one Halfords ring spanner crack, took it back to Halfords and they replaced it with out any hassle.
