When you have a task that has to be done but instead you do other smaller or less important things to put it off.
I know it's a type of procrastination but what's it called ?
Possibly 'delayed something or other?

Displacement activity?
I’ll get back to you.
Fannyin' aboot!
Can't be arsed
Yes, displacement activity.
I thought it would be more familiar when I heard it but perhaps its unfamiliarity was the reason I couldn't remember it.
Thanks 👍
I asked ChatGPT and it reckons "task aversion"
The specific type of procrastination you are describing is called "task aversion." Task aversion is a type of procrastination in which a person avoids or postpones starting a difficult or unpleasant task by instead focusing on smaller, easier tasks or activities. This can be a way for the person to avoid feelings of anxiety, fear, or discomfort associated with the main task. Task aversion can be a form of self-sabotage that prevents a person from making progress on their goals or responsibilities. It can be a difficult habit to break, but with awareness and strategies to manage it, it is possible to overcome task aversion and get things done.
sounds plausible. Apparently, it does enjoy making things up though that sound correct but aren't, so 🤷♂️
Faffing.

displacement activity.
It will never catch on.
Prevarication / Prevaricating (?)
Arguing on STW.
One little thing that I once saw Tim Robbins? (American motivational speaker) say that stuck was: imagine every day you have to eat a frog. Don't spend all day stressing that you have to eat that frog at some point, just get it eaten first thing and forget about it.
Whenever I have an odious task to complete 'eat the frog' just pops into my head and I generally do it. Then waste the rest of the day dicking about on the internet...
