Just watching newsnight at the moment

I don't think I'll ever be able to get my head around American Republicans. They're all absolutely barking! But the dirt poor ones are the best.

I'm living in poverty. I've got no healthcare, but I'm not going to vote for no free healthcare, cos dat would be socialism!!!

I don't really get the logic behind pro-life campaigners shooting doctors dead.

Or those Westboro Baptist Church/God hates fags people. Behaviour that seems about as un-Christian as it gets.

What can I say. I was taken in. Two guys in suits knocked on my door one saturday morning and asked whether I had heard the good news about anti-dive technology. I found it hard to say no and they insisted on leaving a copy of MBR from 2001 behind 🙁

You've got to love them but I really cannot understand how people get to the place where they actually believe they are important enough for....

1. Secret government agencies to spy on them.
2. Aliens to abduct them

Oh, and someone has suggested as such but 'Football supporters', what the **** are they on?

I really, seriously don't get this one. If they were born two miles to the left their allegiance would be entirely different (and most likely be the same as the people they currently hate the most) but it's THEIR LIFE! Crazy.

I once bought a baby seat off a guy in bolton. It was close enough to collect so I drove over. He wouldn't be in but his wife would be. Two things....

1. His wife was some sort of classy porn queen and it was impossible to look at her for more than 20 seconds without developing a trouser embarrassment.

2. The chair was in the 'Bolton Wanderers room', I shit you not, that's how she referred to it.

It was, it has to be said, a fairly blue and white room. It started with a narrow selection of tenuous links to THE TEAM near the door and cumulated in an ejaculation of PRICELESS wonders at the far end such as photos of the entire team stood happily with our number one fan (from observation, a tall but still rather rotund chap) stood pretty much holding their cocks.

I gathered from the way his sensational wife threw the door open so it slammed into some bolton wanderers paraphinalia, that she didn't feel the same sense of loyality to THE TEAM but torn between ripping her clothes off and leaving with the seat, I took the latter.

If only I supported a (premier league) football team I'd have satisified her. I'm just not man enough to compete with these chaps. Now I see the attraction.

The group i find the funniest[apart from the Scientology who are funny in an extremely scary way]is Jehovah Witlesses
They changed the day that the world was suppose to end in their holy Si-Fi book when it didnt come off.The funny thing about them is they deny they even had the date in the book[despite it still saying so in older copies].
I think they've 'recalculated' the date 7 or 8 times. Each time denying the last.
thank goodness they arent militant 😯

As an atheist I'll answer those questions

I don't.
I do.
Oh the irony.

Being an atheist, and therefore not belonging to any religious group, I however can only speak for myself and I wouldn't dream of speaking for anyone else.

I am religious. I believe God is all around us. One of the reasons why I love mountain biking is to be out in the middle of nature.
What I do not agree with is having to shepherded/herded into a building, having money taken from me, following rules set and doing as I am told for 2hours once a week.

Sorry and yes, I am religious but I wont compete with you to see who is the most religious.

Other groups that mystify me:

Why would you assume that religion is necessary for these traits? Given that they exist in "non-believers" this would imply that there are other evolutionary reasons and has very little to do with religion.

I also dont agree with the (sometimes) undercurrent of Islamiphobia on here either.

Elements of Sufism are beautiful.

On the Football fans. Although it does give some people some meaning in life. Imagine if your job is very mundane/basic. Following and supporting a team- gives you something to look forward to. I saw a lad last week who had 'Man United' tattooed on the inside of his arm. Those exact words. Not 'Man Utd' or 'Manchester Utd' but 'Man United'. Seemed alittle....camp?!

Evangelist Agnostics / Athiests. Is banging on about there being NO god any worse than banging on about there being one. The fact is, there probably isn't one but I don't need somebody telling me to look at the Fjords of Norway as proof of his/her/its existence.

And a wee bit of tolerance of other people's views wouldn't go amiss.

I know, ridiculous isn't it? The NHS says

"Starchy foods such as bread, cereals, potatoes, pasta, maize and cornbread are a crucial part of a healthy diet. They contain carbohydrates, which are an essential source of energy. Starchy foods are fuel for your body.

In a healthy meal, starchy foods should make up around a third of everything we eat. That means we should base our meals on these foods.

Most of us need to include more starchy foods in our diets. Try having more wholewheat pasta or brown rice with your meal, and less sauce. Choose wholegrain cereals or porridge for breakfast.

+1 for the Football fans.

Typically the kind of people who would be mildly impressed at the birth of there healthy baby, or that that their fiancee said yes, both life changing amazing events, probably celebrated with a smile and a hug...........

......but get disproportionally excited about some overpaid nob they know only from the media, kicking a ball between a pair of posts, that has no relevence or effect on there lives, and yet they react like they've just won the lottery, shouting and screaming and the top of there voice or wanting to rip the head of the oponents suporters with as much hate as that you'd show somebody who just slapped your mother. WTF are they on???

Speaking as a lapsed footie fan, footie as a game is fundamentally good. You put kids in an open area together, they like to kick a ball around. It costs nothing. As the skill levels increase, the game has an intrinsic beauty that couples individual skills with team tactics. That's why it's so popular around the world.

One of the aspects of footie I find bizarre relates to the obligatory hatred between certain groups of fans. For eg, as a Citeh fan, I was supposed to hate Man U, Liverpool, Leeds whatever. But then when watching England, all this hatred is put to the side so that fans can collectively hate the Germans, etc etc.

I know plenty of otherwise intelligent people who know what's right and wrong, racism not to be tolerated blah blah blah, then introduce the concept of footie and it's ok to hate Leeds, Mancs, Scousers, Cockneys, whatever.

Jason Mountford does a good routine on this. It's bonkers.

If the godbotherers would just stick to bothering their gods quietly it would help. Far too many of them seem to believe they are morally superior to atheists and proclaim this loudly and religion in all its forms has such a negative effect on our society - from the refusal of Catholic hierarchy to allow condom use to prevent aids to the suicide bombers.

this is why people get so annoyed with godbothers. Religion is probably the most harmful force after capitalism

TJ, the vast majority of them do. In the last week how many of them have hassled you?

Religion is probably the most harmful force after capitalism

Most wars TJ are ultimately fought over individual power, rather than true religious or political fanaticism, as I'm sure you're aware.
I'd contend that Marxism and it's offshoot beliefs in the last 100 years have caused more harm than capitalism.
