I need some help finding a lightweight jacket that actually fits me
Needs to be
1, Properly waterproof, not just splashproof, proper Cumbrian liquid sunshine proof
2, Packable into either a little pouch or fold into its own pocket
3, Fit onto my increasingly massive frame 52" chest and 6 ft 3" tall
4, Cheaper the better, as hopefully I will be getting out more, and losing some of this bulk.
I currently have a xxl Gore shakedry thing, but it is definately on the snug side (makes me look like an overstuffed sausage)
I have a RAB packable lightweight jacket that stores in its own pocket. Very waterproof and not too sweaty either. I’m a 50” chest and have the XXL size which still has some room. Got it from Cotswold Outdoor, I think around £80 with the Cycling U.K. 10% discount.
Edit: This one - a bit more expensive now but great jacket
Jacket
I spend all day outdoors, right through the winter, and my everyday wear, instead of the standard PU nylon hi-viz jacket with fleece, sweatshirt and tee shirt I wore a Buffalo Special 6 jacket with a cheap £20 Peter Storm packable jacket from Millets, with my hi-viz vest over the top.
Worked perfectly, all I wore underneath that was a long-sleeve Helly Lifa, I never felt sweaty or overheated, the Peter Storm did leak a bit, well, more like sweated in really heavy, persistent rain, but it just made the outer Pertex of the Buffalo slightly damp, and I was really dry and comfy.
I think I wore it every day, from November through to the end of February, possibly into March, then I was furloughed.
Looking forward to being dry and snug right through this winter as well.
Rohan make some great waterproofs - I’m a 52 chest and the XXL fits well. Don’t pay full price though - they have regular sales - I think I saved @50% on my Helix.
Paramo also fit well but couldn’t be described as packable!
