Mrs P has an iPhone 5S that is way outdated and keeps crashing and doing random nonsense. What’s the general consensus on good new old iphone to have, about £100-£150ish? (Allowing for 64GB or above as she likes taking pics and videos). Bigger screen better as eyesight is giving trouble. OAPhone!?
Is there much diff between 7 or 8? Also, suppose should consider with older phones that they be supported for a while yet? iPhoneados to the forum please
If you can stretch to it the iPhone SE 2020 is a good one to get. Same size / case as the 8 and keeps wireless charging but has the chip from the 11 / 11 Pro / 11 Pro Max.
So it’s quick, but stuff like cameras etc have moved on with the 11 / 12 / 13.
I’ve had the 6s then 7 and now the SE 2020. It’s a bit better than the 7 - battery seems to last a bit longer and it’s a bit quicker etc. Had it just over a year with another year to go. Reckon the next one might be a 12 mini or something - I don’t like the gigantic newer iPhones - my wife has a 12 and it’s odd not having the fingerprint button and it just feels chunkier.
@joebristol thnks. Yeh, she (I think) doesnt want phablet size (too big) but neither 5s size (too small). Nor sure if SE is the Goldilocks ingredient but I suppose they’re all (6S/7/8/2020SE?) similar/same screens?
Difference between a 7 and 8 is minimal I think. 8 doesn’t have 3.5 jack. My son got one or the other for £200 refurbished last year I think. Will be an improvement on a 5s but I’d be looking at Android I think
iPhone 7’isnwjere they lost the normal 3.5mm headphone Jack. So many wireless headphones out there I don’t think it’s a biggie. There are also lightning to 3.5mm adapters but the downside is you can’t listen to wired headphones and charge the phone at the same time.
I’d be looking at Android I think
IKWYM. BUT not happening 😉. After swimming so long in iOS it’s the muscle-memory/easy-option
Headphones not an issue, as doesn't use them except on old, old ipod which she loves to pieces.
Just had a quick squint on giffgaff. Some refurbished 7s and 8s on there. 7s are 32 or 128gb. 8s are 64g minimum. £200 + for an 8 £149 or thereabouts for a 7. My mum uses my old iPhone 8 and battery still very good. I got an Xr which is bigger again.
iPhone SE 2020 is a good one to get.
I'd agree with this, screen is usefully bigger than the 5S but the phone isn't significantly so.
If budget permits - then the 12 mini is better still - as the form factor is a smaller than the SE but its *all" screen
