I was looking at getting one of these (WD My Book 2TB) as a network storage drive, for pretty simple home use - storing photos, streaming videos to the 360 etc. There are fairly damning reviews on Amazon, so what else should I be looking at? Preferably not *too* much more expensive.
I don't need RAID or anything like that, it's not going to be a backup solution, it just needs to store files and stream, really.
Those WDs are quite popular so would take the reviews with a pinch of salt.
I use a Buffalo Terastation Duo in work which has been pretty good. I did have to contend with a couple of flaky firmware upgrades to begin with which were sorted out with support, but since then it's been really reliable - to the extent that I was actually thinking of getting another.
Not sure what their more home oriented stuff is line but this seems to have reasonable reviews if you search online:

I've been using a WD Worldbook 1Tb for storage and streaming for quite a while now with no problems. I guess it's pretty similar to that one.
"Personal Cloud" though? Utter buzzword bollocks!
I've got the 1 TB Buffalo LinkStation it was £90 or £100 I can't remember exactly. Simple, does what you'd expect no complaints from me

One small HDD and no OS? Not really a NAS, is it?

Yeah, but that hardly makes it unique on STW, does it?
