More specifically at the Hopton race this weekend.
To be played in the arena on the PA throughout the day.
What would you like to hear?
No swearing as it is an event where there will be children around.
All opinions and tastes welcome.
Get your requests in.

Honestly, for me, it would be some kinda of nauseatingly repetitive techno. Proper uplifting happy hardcore would do nicely.

If you've got a PA you HAVE to play "Eye of the Tiger" - it's the law.

Some kind of death metal perhaps would sum up how I tend to feel during these events quite nicely.. one of those records where they just scream instead of singing.

PS I'm a bit miffed I didn't know about this race.. my parents live nearby.

Eye of the tiger should be played at all races.

It's a national xc round. I'd imagine the info is on BC website. I think there are still entries available.

If the weather is nice play a continuous loop of storm sound effects.
If raining, ice cream van jingles.

Forget the music, this is pretty much all the inspiration you need...

I say none, why is it even neccesary? Mind you if there isn't music then there will just be the mindless gibbering of someone who feels the need to comment on every thing...

Not sure from an XC point of view but in DH there is a point at Hopton when you can hear the music which can give you a lift as you know the finish is coming up. I guess in XC it can signify the end of the lap is coming or the finish.

Seems to add to the atmosphere a bit.

I would say, the commentary and music ads to the atmosphere, which is sadly lacking in a lot of UK events. I go to a LOT of races, both UK and Europe for XC, Road and Cyclocross. The best ones are always the ones with some atmosphere going on.

As for suggestions, don' know just fill yer iPod up and randomly play it, doesn't seem to matter what the music is, just not dead air!

Yeah I do listen out for the arena when racing, I must admit.

The arena can be a pretty boring place to be at an Mtb race.
It's as much for the supporters/spectators/parents/workers/volunteers as for the racers who might only hear it for a small percentage of each lap.
Any specific requests can go in the play list. Can't guarantee you'll hear your track as you pass through the arena on your lap though!
We're just trying to get some personal input from the participants.

Why the hell would I want to listen to somebody else's naff choice of music when I'm out enjoying fresh air and exercise?

Well the only race i've ever entered is HTN and the selection of brass band and steel drums worked rather well 😀

IMO you probably need to play it fairly safe and cross generational. There'll be more people turned off than on to music that's too loud and hard. Don't stress the PA either, even if it's something I like I can't stand a PA suffering badly from distortion. Think relaxing background to talking, rather than people having to shout over the music and getting a headache.

No music, as at least 60% of the people at any one time aren't going to like it.

For the same reason you'll be riding someone else's choice of trail.
