STW motorcyclists what is in your garage?

In mine behind the mountain bikes, commuters, kids bikes and general junk there are two motorcycles.

The first is my looooooooong standing (literally) project a Honda XBR500 with a shagged engine in the process of getting a NX650 Dominator engine upgrade. Its a sort of cafe racer thing and has CBR jellymould forks wheels and brakes which make a considerable difference to how it rides.
[img] [/img]

The other motorcycle is a CBR600FN that looks bog standard in aftermarket white fairings that hides a Fireblade engine that has been squeezed between the frame rails. It goes very nicely and has an indecent turn of speed for a 600

This is the longest I've gone without a road bike - coming up to 3 years now, with my last being a 2005 Kawasaki z750 that I sold in 2010.

Having said that I'm 3/4 way through restoring a 1983 (ish) Yamaha Ty Majesty. I'm struggling for certain parts and enthusiasm. I went a bit OTT on what was meant to be a simple rebuild and it's turned into a nut & bolt restoration. If its ever finished it'll be too nice to ride..!

Loving the mutant CBR...

Sadly forgotten up the back of the garage is this:

Once upon a time it looked like this, and won prizes.

Not much standard on it, paint by me, cams jets and exhaust got it a little past 80bhp, handling by Ohlins Dymag and Ktech, huge efforts got the weight actually down to be the same as the official Suzuki claimed weight  Loved it, put 40000 miles on it, but pushirons took over and it's never moved since.

I'm going all out for the shonkiest collection (all were under £700 each on ebay);

a kwaker gt550 with top box - upped the cycling commuting so used about a dozen times this year and now with a flat tyre, flat battery and expired mot in the front garden in London - annoying as this year I've put a full exhaust and new shocks on it.

Honda C90 and 1968 bantam 175cc both in Ireland. The c90 is one of the most fun bits of kit I've had ideal for pootling down country lanes, seriously tempted to get one for london and the bantam is my try at owning a classic bike. Both can be left for a couple of months and start and bring a smile to my face when riding them so ideal for me. I would add they are both ridden in very rural sw Ireland with no traffic, lights, etc.

Not seen much use this year due to the weather and children... but hopefully get a few more miles on in 2013! I think I only managed 2500 in 2012 and can't see any more going on now!

@Lionheart I think its actually heavier than the Fireblade! Not by much but all that steel adds up.

@Northwind my garage is similar with motorcycles used as storage shelves for tyres. My old SV although a hoot to ride always left me wanting more composed suspension and better brakes. Suzuki would do well to follow Triumph with their upgraded versions of their Triples. As a factory upgrade it really wouldn't add much to what is a very cheap motorcycle.

@weeksy that BIG KTM is very tasty but it would have me up before the judge quikcer than you can say "do a wheelie mister"

@kilo back lane blasting on a C90 is a curiously underrated pleasure and when you get to B and unclassified roads they can cover ground surprisingly quickly.

@jota that is a healthy stable!

@stratobiker that is tootbrush clean!

I've got:
A 1996 Fireblade (the best model) that with a little effort would appear mint.

An H reg GPz500 for commuting. It's a dreadful bike, but twirls through traffic nicely.

A 2007 YZ250 crosser made into enduro. (Anyone here ride enduro and wanna talk tyres..? 😆 )

Here's mine. I've had plenty of bigger bikes but this has been the only one for the last seven years. It owes me very little and only does about 500 miles a year but it's a V-twin and I'm rather fond of it.

I've got a Triumph Tiger 800. it's my 5th Hinckley Triumph in a row. I'll be doing a little tinkering with the suspension this Winter to give it a more compliantv ride. Buy British!
That Griso looks fab, a friend of mine has the older 4v one, nice to ride.

I'm thinking of a Bonneville or a Thruxton next. Open faced helmet, jeans, jumpers for goalposts etc.

Some cracking bikes lurking on here.

Had this old VTR for 10 years, fitted the later (big) tank, fuel pump, Maxton shock, rebuilt forks and got rid of the horrible red screen. Bar the twice-yearly Scotland tour, am struggling to find a reason to use it these days.

Hey Buccaneer, how are you getting on with the Bonnie? Do you miss the power of a sportsbike? Do you ride steadier or do you rag it?

I. Want. One. Royal Enfields are looking good, too. Had a good look around them at the bike show. Don't know if 27 BHP would be enough though!

1997 CBR1100XX (Blackbird) here. Unfortunately looking rather sad and neglected at the mo. After years of 20k miles/year commuting on my bikes, in late 2010 I was sent to work at a client 250 miles from home. This has meant I've done only 1k miles this year. Bobbins.

I really enjoy the Bonnie. It's a little slow, I've only had 110 out of it, but the different pace and style of riding was exactly what I wanted. It is hard (for me at least) to get used to not being able to just open the throttle and overtake absolutely anything in an instant but at the same time I just plain enjoy riding it 🙂

I've rather got into the tarting it up thing too, quite a few cosmetic bolt-ons already in place. I've never done that with sportsbikes, an exhaust and crashbungs were usually all I bothered with.

The Enfields may have a similar style but 27 BHP will be painfully slow I think.

Don't know if 27 BHP would be enough though!

That depends on where and why you ride. Honda claim 39 BHP for my VTZ250, which is probably close to 27 in the real world and that's fine for me to go wafting about the countryside at speeds I can wear an open face helmet for. Throw in a few motorways and dual carriageways and rather more patience is required.

I write with a tear in my eye,
I have an Aprilia RST Futura
[img] [/img]
Failed MoT, nothing too serious but it was waiting for me to get round to fixing it when the lockup was broken into. The resulting damage has meant it's not worth fixing up so it's likely to end up in bits on ebay. I'm gutted. Apart from the rarity value (I've only seen 4 and own one of those), it's the best bike I've ever owned. Amazing reliability apart from electrical problems (resolved by shorting out the offending articles), comfortable enough for a week long round Britain 1600 mile jaunt, all the torque you'd expect from a big twin, fast and sharp enough to keep me happy.

Still, I'd never have got shot of it otherwise, so might now look at one of these as a replacement

Cheers- aye, K6 GSXR750 forks.

@Tomaso- totally agree... There's always been rumous of a 650R version. Ironically you can build one using almost entirely off-the-shelf Suzuki parts and everything fits up like factory, just needs one custom spec bearing.

What's annoying is that the stock one's suspension isn't so terrible, it just has stupidly light springs and oil in the forks, so the average UK rider is too heavy for them. Daft, it'd cost peanuts to correct that.

Nice one Godzilla, I can even see Fremington Edge in the distance!
Nice ones for Birky & Sharkbait as well.

Kawa Versys. Added a Scorpion exhaust to mine and some better mirrors which don't vibrate anymore.

Also looking to get a XR or a DRZ as they look fun 🙂
