was in the bathroom just now and saw this moth land on my window.

it was definitely attracted by the light but it was big (as big as a butterfly at least, at a guess at least a 2" wingspan) .

the colouring on its underside was a white/cream body and it had brown markings on the wings along with cream like its body.but it also had vivid orange markings (1 on each wing).

apologies for being vague but i was watching it through my frosted glass so couldn't get a proper clear view,but it was beautiful (and big).

i live in devizes wiltshire and have never seen one before like this.

*i rule out mothra as nowhere near japan and it wasn't 100 plus feet tall/wide 😁

thanks for the replies but alas it wasn't any of the moths mentioned after googling the pics.

if it was sex crazed it definitely was at the wrong house too as any shenannigans of that nature are deader than boris johnson's soul lol.

just a shame i couldn't have seen its other side to get a better idea.

That’ll be a Tiger Moth, although there are a number of species. You’re lucky it wasn’t the largest sibling, you’d be having the house rebuild otherwise...

What you probably saw was the Garden Tiger, adult version of the woolly bear caterpillars;

But it could have been a Scarlet Tiger, I’ve seen a couple of these in my garden in Chippenham;

Or possibly a Jersey Tiger, once restricted to Jersey, but spreading further into the mainland, I saw one a week or so ago in Westbury;

Sounds like a confectionary made from white and milk chocolate with orange pieces. Do you happen to live near one of those magic sweet shops like the one in that Harry Potter documentary?
