Elbow have been around for years (mid 90's?), admittedly mainstream success has been a recent thing, but still not a new band.

I think that with the internet being so accessible and the cynicism brought about by x-factor.. there's much less of a herd mentality..

it's not just music fans that are bothering to access good music.. but pop fans too.. leaving a more knowledgeable and fractured fanbase in general..

I think that's a big ask for any band. Only A handful worldwide I reckon.

5 years isn't alot of time for a band to develop the kind of career to sell out stadiums imo.

Generalising, to be a stadium band, you need to have been around for a while. Saying "what current band who appeared in the last five years" implies that current music is crap, which is a bit disingenuous.

Stadium acts that jump to mind include Madonna, U2, Metallica... U2 formed in 1976, do you reckon they'd have sold out a stadium in 1981?

A decent band from the last five years? I must be getting old - i genuinely can't think of one. As above, the big stadium acts typically take years to mature...

50000 is nothing, anyway... Iron Maiden, Rock in Rio, 1985. 400000 people!

Oasis - Formed 1991, playing Maine Road and Knebworth in 1996.

Paramore, easy

The Beatles played to 55000 in Shea Stadium in '65. Within 5 years of the start of the Ringo version.

Indeed, one of my regrets is not going to see them then, I had the chance. Most bands that can fill stadiums take much longer to get there and when they do they are are bloated and lazy living off of past glories, but at that time they were at their swaggering best.

Guns n Roses within 5 years? Saw them at Gateshead and the Stones at Hampden and have no desire to see anybody else in a stadium. Live music should be experienced in the likes of the Barras or King Tuts. Saw the Black Keys the other week at the Corn Exchange, about 3000 capacity? Wouldn't want to see anybody anywhere bigger than that. Was in King Tuts on Sunday, fantastic venue and gig.

Good call; GnR formed in 85, Appetite was 87 and Illusion was 91, so yeah, they were stadium-ing in five years of becoming well known.

I love Paramore to bits but, stadium headliners? No chance.

I have to say the Foo Fighters are the only band I've seen with the presence for that size of gig. Probably 4 times the size of the Aerosmith gig I saw in Dublin, 10 times the size of the Iron Maiden and Muse gigs I saw in the noughties.

I think I'd enjoy a large scale Klaxons gig, maybe.

Still too old a band for the OP. They were great at Edinburgh, don't think they needed any bigger a venue though.
