Looking for a LSBL with a zipped front (to chest) for walking, biking and general outdoorsy stuff - not bike specific. Any recommendations folks?

Go Outdoors sell one from Montane. That’s my favourite. I like the anti bacterial material if I’m wearing it all day. I also like the non-zip version.

I've a couple of favourites - my Patagonia Lightweight Zip is mucho costly but wonderful wicking and hard-wearing.
I've also bought a ASICS running top. Apart from a slightly short zip it's great - good fit, good wicking, simple red colour, cost £15 from sportshoes.com

As always with these sorts of questions...How much are you willing to spend?

What do you mean by base layer?
That sounds like a strange question, but all my base layers are tight fitting with no zip. My mid-layers have zips to ventilate.
Anyway, ignoring that, I have 3 or 4 of these from Decathlon, no idea if they're what you have in mind but they work for me.

Recently got one of these from decathlon which I was impressed with https://www.decathlon.co.uk/mens-ls-t-shirt-mh550-grey-id_8492293.html

Also like https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/montane-mens-dart-zip-neck-tee-A2120139.html?colour=122

I also have a couple from Decathlon and the price was right but they are a bit scratchy compared with Icebreaker (wallet-breaker, more like).

Whatever I can dig out at TK Maxx usually, although Primark do some very comfortable stuff. In fact their running gear is now my goto.

My favourite are the Mountain Warehouse ones. Really remarkably good.

I have a couple of DHB merino ones from Wiggle which are quite nice. Though I'm still working through a pile of HH jobs some of which must be 30 years old and going strong.

Decathlon ones are decent for their price and ease.

For pure warmth, durability and wicking you can't go wrong with the original full beans Under Armour effort.

I used one for sports training and it did 100+ sessions without blinking.

By the way - how does it work that 10 minutes after I write "Icebreaker" here, I get an ad on Facebook for Icebreaker?

I've had a few Mons Royale merino tops from futureproof.life (looks like a dodgy web address but they're legit) and they're all superb. Nice and warm when they need to be, nice and cool when they need to be, excellent at staying non-smelly. Can be quite pricey but I've had four different tops from them at significant discount due to end-of-line type sales.

Fo all day; Howies Merino, still the best after all these years, had icebreaker, Rapha etc etc and the Howies ones just keep on going long after the others are in the bin. They can be pretty good value if you wait for a sale.

For shorter efforts the Craft knitted baselayers are amazing for thier combined warmth and wicking properties but they don't half whiff after a while so maybe not one for the pub run.

No zip, but https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CLPXLSBL/planet-x-pro-365x-long-sleeve-base-layer aren't bad, just slightly too long arms for me in the s/m size but it's liveable. The few short sleeve and sleeveless ones I have are great, especially for turbo sessions.

I bought one of these Mons Royale long sleeve Marino wool tops from LD Mountain Centre recently. Not cheap (but good discount) and fab quality...

https://www.ldmountaincentre.com/ski-c26/clothing-c69/thermals-baselayers-c141/mons-royale-olympus-3-0-long-sleeve-p33234

Would definitely recommend.

I go between Endura or Nukeproof merino LS tops, or the close fitting Planet X 365 LS synthetic tops. Both brilliant options.

Wore out my original Howies merinos after many years. Endura Baa Baa not lasted as long. Nukeproof were cheap but actually really nice.

I have a Helly Hansen wool one with a quarter zip. Been amazing - comfy, warm/cool when it needs to be (colder days obvs) and lasted well over last 10 years. Very impressed

Another vote for Patagonia. Not cheap but I have some that have stood 15yrs + of pretty intense use. As for Merino I think it's absolute garbage for intense activity. Great for low intensity but poor for anything where you sweat or get wet and seems to fall apart quite quickly.
