Hello,
Laptop recently gone kaput so looking to replace it.
I use it for:
Browsing the web
Basic word processing
Watching HD video from external hard drive.
Id like:
1080p Screen 15'' or so
USB 3.0
HDMI output
I havent looked at computers recently so not to sure about which CPU to go for and was hoping somebody would be able to advise.
Was thinking £450 or so.

Raspberry Pi ?
1080p will be fine.
£25, well within your budget!
Would prefer a laptop, but have been tempted by a Raspberry Pi before.
From looking at your requirements you are easily going to get decent laptop for that money.
CPU wise try and find an i5. It will probably come with Win 8 and a lot of laptops will now have touch screens. Not sure if that will come in your budget. Also I don't know if you will get 1080p.
I think the best way to do it is spend time reading reviews and finding out what you can get for that money.
But a quick look around and found these for a start.

Toshiba Satellite Pro C50-A-137 Intel Core i5-3230M
SONY Vaio Fit 15 E SVF1521A1EW.CEK 15” Laptop
Edit: Google laptops under 500. Shed loads of reviews and comparisons to give you info.
I have an Acer Aspire. Good build quality, looks nice and does what I need. Only i3 so does struggle with photoshop a bit
Seavers, thanks for the advice. Ill check those out.
