As above. I have been asked by my partners son on advice about getting a laptop that can cope with blender at a reasonble level.

Cant get a desktop as he has little space.

Budget 1000-1500

I've been out of the PC buying game for years. So all the numbers of processors and gpu's look the same.

Spotted this on Dells site ... any thoughts.

The requirements for Blender are listed here.

https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/

I din't know much about graphics so I asked ChatGPT what would be a good buy for £1k and it came up with the response below.

Great budget for Blender. Short version: aim for an RTX 4060 laptop GPU (8 GB), 16 GB RAM (upgradable to 32 GB), and at least a 512 GB NVMe SSD. Here are good UK options that typically land at or under £1,000:

Top picks (good availability in the UK)

  • Lenovo LOQ 15 (RTX 4060, Ryzen/Intel variants) — solid cooling and easy RAM/SSD upgrades; frequently discounted close to £900–£1,000. Lenovo+2Lenovo+2

  • Acer Nitro 16 / Nitro V16 (RTX 4060, Ryzen 7 8845HS) — great value and 16-inch screen; often around this budget. Currys Business+1

  • Gigabyte G5 KF (RTX 4060, i5/i7 13th-gen) — no-frills but strong Blender performance for the money; commonly found near £900–£1,000. Currys Business+1

  • Dell G15 5530 (RTX 4060, i7-13650HX) — chunky but powerful; frequently appears on sale near £1,000. Amazon

Why these?

  • RTX 4060 gives you CUDA/OptiX for fast Cycles rendering. Big uplift over RTX 4050 in Blender. (Creator roundups echo this guidance.) CG Cookie

  • 16 GB RAM is workable, but upgrade to 32 GB if you use big scenes or lots of high-res textures.

  • CPU matters less than GPU for Cycles; mid-range Ryzen 7 / Intel i7 HX chips are plenty.

  • Thermals & upgradability: LOQ, Nitro, and G5 are easy to open to add RAM/SSD.

Quick spec checklist (copy/paste this when shopping)

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060 (8 GB)

  • RAM: 16 GB (2×8) minimum, slots free to go 32 GB

  • Storage: ≥512 GB NVMe (1 TB ideal)

  • Screen: 15.6–16″ 1080p/120–165 Hz or 1600p if within budget

  • Ports: USB-C + HDMI (handy for second monitor while modelling)

  • Weight/Noise: expect ~2.3–2.6 kg and noticeable fans under render

My pick if you can find it under £1,000 today:

  • Lenovo LOQ 15 (RTX 4060, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB–1 TB SSD) — best mix of cooling, upgradability and value; often discounted on Lenovo/retailers. Lenovo+2Lenovo+2

Still its £100 over budget but..

4070 gpu

2560x1600 240hz IPS screen

i7-14700HX CPU

Quite a big step up..
