Now dead and needs replacing, just came out of the garage door opening mechanism:

I just want to know if I need a "specialist" bulb or whether I can just go an buy an eco/LED off the shelf.

Totally normal, just buy another with same size screw. Probably best to go with another eco/low wattage bulb if you don't know what wattage max the fitting is rated for.

It reckon it's Electronic, 15W, 220-240V, 50/60Hz, 144mA with what looks like a standard Edison screw fit (unless model has tiny hands)

Is that a General Electric logo on the left as well?

It lights up the garage, obviously needed in the days before the car itself lights up the whole place as you step out the door.

I was just confused by the bit at the bottom, and as to what trickery is inside all that plastic.

Looks like a flourescent tube enclised in a plastic bulb job.

Smash and find out.

Probably one of these with a cover to diffuse the light more.

Indeed,  I cleaned it and held it to the light - its the Spiral kind encased in a diffused "bulb".

A new level of special for Kryton.

"I have a lightbulb with all the relevant information about it clearly printed on the side, what should I get to replace it?"

Would you like us to teach you how to suck eggs also?

I'd have said fluorescent as well - 15w is quite low equivalent in LED land. Easy enough to get like for like.

I never cease to be amazed at how long it takes me to buy a lightbulb.  BITD it was so simple, you had one type and that was it.  Yet here we are with those new-fangled LEDs that are supposed to last for 10 years, all 3 from Homebase lasted less than 3 years with one lasting only a year.

Progress?  Is it?

Yawn, you have you own issues to deal with if the best contribution you can provide to StW is to rock up for a personal snipe at me every once in a while.  A bitter little man behind the keyboard I suspect. No one thinks your posts are funny, you know that right?

I didnt know whether it was Flourescent or LED, a perfectly reasonable question IMO.

Just go for an LED replacement. Last far longer, and instant light.

We used to blow the 'so called eco' halogen candle bulbs at an alarming rate. Spent a small fortune on LED candles, and they have been fab - no failures in over a year, and the colour temperature is 'warm' rather than blue white.

Real question is how many STWers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Just one. Simply hold up the lamp and the entire world will revolve around you.

....unless you’re Flashy. In his case the answer is none....

He has people for that.
