Found this chunky beast earlier. Looks different to all the other spiders around which are the same shape, but brown colouring. This chap(ess) is just sitting there, like it owns the place!

Oh, and yes, the windows are filthy!

looks like a mature female [i]Araneus diadematus[/i]. An orb spider sometimes known as a garden (orb) spider or common orb spider. They are common throughout Northern Europe and quite stunning. They will build quite large, strong sticky webs across plants, trees or grasses. Their venom is not harmful to humans but they are quite gentle anyway so unlikely to bite.
