Goldfinch.
Or a sparrow in a mask.
It's been a good year for goldfinches, there's loads round here, sometimes get flocks of over a dozen on the bird feeders outside mine.
Baby Robin dressed as a Goldfinch
He didn't have the Red at the front?
Was he a baby then
Was he a baby then
Still looks quite fluffy rather than feathery so I'd say so.
This might help
Adult goldfinch - lighting makes the red face mask look darker than usual. Not getting as many as I used to, same with sparrows, might be something to do with the increasing number of starlings descending on my tree and feeders; there are a lot of youngsters, and along with the adults they’re noisy and quarrelsome, and I think they rather put the other birds off.
Blackbirds don’t seem too bothered, but they usually stay on the ground picking up all the mealworms and bits of suet pellets dropped by the starlings.
There are frequent loud bangs as well, which are young starlings taking off and mistaking the back windows for sky and hitting them five or six yesterday! Fortunately they’re pretty robust and there haven’t been any stunned birds on the ground.
Costing me a bloody fortune feeding the birds and hedgehogs, there were four adult hedgehogs scoffing the food I put out last night!
Photo’s a bit fuzzy, taken at 11.40 last night, and they won’t pose for a selfie...

Congratulations on not feeding the neighbourhood cats.
CaptainFlashheart - genius!
Definitely goldfinch.
Congratulations on not feeding the neighbourhood cats.
Was that me? Believe me, it’s hard work keeping them out of the garden! There are three regular local cats come in, one from the flats behind my house, and I guess my garden gets their attention because of the birds, there were a load of pigeon feathers scattered around a week or so ago, and because of the food I put out for the hedgehogs. The feeding station for the ‘hogs you can see in the photo is the result of much trial and error, to keep the furry bastards out! I had to add some fillet pieces into the entrances because one skinny little cat used to squeeze into the boxes and snaffle the food. 😫
I put dog meat out, and the cats seem to love it, if I forget and leave a half-empty tin out they’ll hook the food out with their paws.
I’ve got a cast-iron cats-eye on the top to stop them pushing the top off as well.
It’s bad enough feeding the local wildlife without all the neighbouring felines as well!
Oops, just had another bang from behind me as a starling bounced of a bedroom window!
