Normally my phone lives in my pocket but yesterday it was on my handlebars in a deluge.
Today I wake up to this.
Phone is 3 years old. Is it simply old age, getting wet or my sick skills on my bike?
Would like to avoid killing its replacement.

I got that on my iPhone on holiday last yr when my life proof case leaked. Supposedly water proof/ resistant iPhone and that happened. Got it repaired on insurance. Tried the bag of rice trick etc, didn’t work. Gradually got worse.
Water has got in and separated the layers in the screen.
Good excuse to get the latest iPhone.
There was a thread questioning the need for anything like a garmin the other day. Maybe we have the answer.
Out of curiosity, what's the IP rating for that phone mate?
One I think...answer is in the product name...IPhONE (capitalised the bits to highlight as the joke isn't rubbish enough!).
It’s a Xiaomi 9t lite. Shame as it was an excellent phone.
Normally use a moto g8 power as a dedicated bike route phone. Will be buying that a waterproof case.
Once I’ve killed that I’ll have a look at proper gps units. What’s as easy to use as a phone?

Newer phones should have a better water-resistance rating, I emphasise water-resistance, because no phone is waterproof, not even a top-end iPhone, although examples have shown a remarkable degree of resistance, after extended periods in quite deep water, it’s best not to chance it. I have a watch that says ‘100% WATERPROOF’ on the caseback; I wouldn’t wear it having a bath! Check around the specs for new phones, go for the best rated one you can afford, and get a rugged case that’ll keep water out for a reasonable period of time. That one’s three years old, and TBH, the battery is likely to be showing its age, so now’s a good opportunity to upgrade it.
You don’t need a separate GPS device, just a more water-resistant phone with a good case.
I don’t know what Otterbox cases are like these days, I bought one several phones ago, and I binned it because it was rubbish, the ‘screen protector’ was a thin sheet of flimsy plastic that bubbled up in the middle, so you had to push down quite hard to get the touchscreen to function, and it made a sort of ‘popping’ sound when you used it, and it wasn’t even stuck properly around the edges, so water could seep in! I replaced it with a Rinké silicon case and a 9H toughened glass screen protector, a combination I’m using on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, along with a protective cover over the camera lenses that sits inside the case. I’ve replaced the screen protector twice, and the lens protector once, which shows they do the job - I don’t think it cost more than £20 for case and protectors.

My God man, where is your humanity?😉😁

Pretty much all of them are easier to use than a phone when you're riding your bike.
Take half an hour to set up your screens and profiles and you're done.
My oldest GPS is now, errrr, 13 years old. Battery only lasts for about 4-5 hours now (down from probably 12 when it was new) but i only use it when i'm out with the kids so they can see what they've done.
Garmin Explore and Explore 2 are good for the cash - I put my phone out of harms way as GPS units are far tougher.
